Congratulations to Montenegro from Tirana via NYC.
I've heard great things about the country and am looking forward to visiting when I make my trip back home.

"Serbia isn't 'my own society' and thank goodness for that."

Well, thanks goodness for Serbia even more!

"Why do you think my only options are Belgrade or Pristina. The whole world is my oyster."

I don't think any place anywhere in the world is particularly keen to take in someone who despises his/her own kind, and, by extension, himself/herself.

"@Winston.

Do you really think "your parents are Albanian" is insulting to me? Or do you honestly believe that no one of Serbian background is capable of making critical observations about Serbia?
(Danilo, 11 November 2010 15:31)"

Why don't you ask the Albanians whether they even want you to be their chld?
And ask them in Pristina rather than from the comfort of your armchair in Belgrade.

"Since you are so alienated from your own society"

Serbia isn't 'my own society' and thank goodness for that.

Why do you think my only options are Belgrade or Pristina. The whole world is my oyster.

..and make it in the constitution that it is against the Serbian constitution to join the EU.
(Stanko, 11 November 2010 05:58)

Afraid of the wind of change? I'm sure that the majority of Serbs will be tired of the Kosovo topic, sooner or later. A whole nation held hostage for a futile topic is only attractable for those who have no future while in their frustration to drag the rest of the society in their emotional agony.

Not to mention majority of EU states being in reccession due to Global Economic Crisis, i say we dump the EU and make it in the constitution that it is against the Serbian constitution to join the EU.
(Stanko, 11 November 2010 05:58)

When you do that please make sure that abolishment of visa system for citizens of Serbia is also against serbian constitution.

Congratulations to Montenegro. Well deserved.

Perhaps you should consider including a ban on joining reality as well while at it?

Stanko

pre 13 godina

I hope Serbia never joins the EU because joining the EU will be signing away Serbia's sovereignty to Brussel, also why join a union that wants to dismember Serbia, not to mention 23/27 EU members have recognised Kosovo's independence. Joining the EU is suicidal, we should be looking for alternatives and one of them is being closer to Russia and establishing stronger political, economical and military ties with Russia.

Also joining the EU will not solve our economic problems at all, infact it will only make things much more worse since everything will become so much more expensive, look at Bulgaria and Romania, they are in the EU and they are in a worse economic staye than that of Serbia.

Not to mention majority of EU states being in reccession due to Global Economic Crisis, i say we dump the EU and make it in the constitution that it is against the Serbian constitution to join the EU.

Danilo, why did your Albanian parents give you Serbian name? Maybe all Albanians do not hate Serbs, but actually admire them. In any case, me being half Crno Gorac, I have mixed views on this candidacy issue. Personally, I think that the EU has jumped the gun here, because Montenegren politicans may think that they do not need to much more to clean up the country, on the other hand, it will hopefully improve the living standards of the average citizens, who like mosy people in the Balkans, suffered much in the last 20 years. In either case, a hesitant congratulations to my half brothers.

I have no trauma and have no problem stating the obvious when I see it. What passport or background the person happens to have is irrelevant to my personal state of mind.
(Danilo, 10 November 2010 16:38) "

Obviously your "personal state of mind" is one filled with self-loathing of your own background even though you now professed to find things "funny". How pathetic!

Since you are so alienated from your own society, why don't you move to, say, Pristina or Tirana? Not that they will necessarily want you in these places in view of your Serb/Serbian background -- and this is "stating the obvious"!

You keep throwing words like brothers, yet you fail to congratulate them. You rather wish their demise at the hands of Albanians because they got their candidate status. What kind of perverse brotherhood is that?

Ratko

Nice carrot for selling our your brothers. I hear montenegro is next on agenda for greater albania project.. good luck montenegro cause you will need it when dealing with albans.

Danilo the fact that Montenegro is run like a fifedom by Djukanovic and his clan is a matter of public record and nothing to do with whether one is Serbian or not.

Speak to any international workers in montenegro or EU officials off the record and they will tell you that corruption in Montenegro is off the scale. They will tell you that the media is in a pitiful state. On the other hand the Montenegro government has been ingratiating itself with the EU in order to avoid closer inspection.

And the other thing to remember is that the most vocal here tend not to be supporters of the EU project. Why then would they be jealous of Montenegro? They don't want to be in the EU.

Danilo

Funny, I think it would be 'traumatic' to identify with a 'people'. This is a primitive to view yourself.

Reading the article gives one the impression "improvement" meant going from "abysmal" to "unsatisfactory".
(Mike, 10 November 2010 15:57)

Not sure, Mike because most of former COMECON countries now in E.U. does fall into "abysmal" category.

See the map of COMECON:

We are merely talking about how "abysmal" can be stretched.

There are people who think "organized crime and corruption" can be found in the highest echelons of government here -- for instance, Milo and his cigarettes.

how can montenegro even be considered. Milo is well know for his exploits in, lets say tobacco and meetings with distinguished gentlemen who visit and promote montenegro in south america.

Let us see what would happen if the EU really did an investigation into Milo and his staff. I would have assumed that the vote rigging that took place in current and past elections would have Milo and his party as clear favourites
