I did not hear any apologies or regrets from the croatian leaders...

That's because you only choose what you want to hear and instead continue to preach hatred and violence

I would even go so far as to recommend a truth and reconciliation committee for Serbs and Croats extending as far back as 1941 in an effort to deconstruct as many antagonistic historical narratives against each other as possible. Both sides need to come to terms with the crimes committed in their nation's name against the other.

You are right Mike, that's exactly what we need. This eye for an eye mentality we see has made the Balkans go blind. In fact, I even remember when that idea was suggested in the very early days but it was the West that insisted on the ICTY being created instead, which has ended up being a complete failure towards the process of reconciliation.

Great to see that these two presidents seem to speak the same language - the language of reconciliation! Sometimes, symbolic gestures are important for the future.

I did not hear any apologies or regrets from the croatian leaders for their illegal revolt against the UN-recognized Yugoslavian state, their murdering of thousands of Serbian civilians and their ethnic cleansing and looting of hundreds of thousands of Serbian civilians. Do you know how this reconciliation will stop - when the eu refuses to reward the Serb government for it's "make love, not war" foreign policy, not admit it into the eu next year and the Serbian people throw tadic out of power in 2012. Then the Serbian people will give the three fingers to the bloody, thirsty western imperialists.

I agree with you, Mike. Let's go back in our relatively recent history, and face them, all sides. The time has come to stop the generation to generation hatred, that is passed down to us by our previous generations. We were not part of that, so should we inherit those hatreds? Let's sit down, talk, apologoze, and reconcile. We were all victims, and aggressors at various times. If we live in the past, we will miss the future.

I really have to applaud the initiatives undertaken by Tadic and Josipovic. I would even go so far as to recommend a truth and reconciliation committee for Serbs and Croats extending as far back as 1941 in an effort to deconstruct as many antagonistic historical narratives against each other as possible. Both sides need to come to terms with the crimes committed in their nation's name against the other.
