Oh how I laugh at the feeble minded individuals claiming morality and ethics was the driving force behind these "apologies".

They would never have taken place if it weren't for the economical and political benefits Serbia would receive.

Why do you think they haven't "apologized to Kosovo? Its because they don't offer much economic benefits in keeping close economic and political relations.

So please, stop mentioning morality and politics in the same sentence. There is nothing noble about it.

Guys I don't really understand why people living in the Balkans are so stubborn about their own ethnic group. If you live in Croatia you should become Croatians, the same apply if you live in Serbia or in Bosnia or Albania. It doesn't make sense to create a state within a state. There are lots of Italians abroad, have you ever heard them claiming an independent Italian state?like the "Republic of little Italy"?
Respect the rules and traditions of the country you live in that's it .

The problem is that the main principle of nowadays Western politics concerning Balkans is like this "everybody have right to separate except Serbs"

I cant agree more, but things are not that simple. Many believe that Serbia got Kosovo on very superficial merits, and because it simply had stronger allies at the time. In fact Italy and Austro-Hungary were against it, they favored Kosovo being part of Albania.

There are some 500K albanians living in southern Italy for now 500 yrs, you don't see them asking for independence or even autonomy, although they still speak Albanian and preserve their traditions.

Further living under Serbia at least for Albanians has been a destructive and horrible experience, Alb were never treated with dignity, with equal rights as citizens of Serbia, and always were seen as an unwanted population. Besides the communist era to some extent, Serbian ruling elite has never had a problem voicing their shovinistic ideas and plans on how to exterminate and expel the Albanian population from Kosovo.

The others such as Croats and Bosnians has also seen Serbia as the major threat to their statehood and nationhood, that is why they sided with Germany during the WWII as did K-Alb.

Even today in this very forum, you see many serbs that believe they have done nothing wrong, although the major massacres, and mass graves, and war crimes in the last 2 decades have their seal on it.

Albanians simply can't gamble with their lives like that. They have the right to life like every population, and living under Serbia it simply jepardises that right.

It is the world's chessboard,
where East meets West it's bound to be volatile. As for the borders well they are the leftover remnants of communist ideals they have been redrawn time and time again and have never reflected representation of an ethnic group. Many systems have failed perhaps the only one that sounds obscene to some is the only true pragmatic solution.

Who you trying to fool mate? The massacre in Recak has been ordered by serbian government of that time and executed by serbian police on the ground. As result of this massacre Nikola Sahinovic is suffering 22 years in prison. There is voice recording of Sahinovic who is ordering the innocent civilians to be killed. --"Everything that happened to Serbs and Croats in the twentieth century can be put in the book of the past, which in itself would be an act of writing a book of the future," Tadić said.

Josipović said that Ovcara is a place of pain and suffering of the victims of a senseless policy.

"We have come to pay respects to the victims, express our condolences, but also to promise that no crime will go unpunished," he said.

Josipović expressed belief that this event will help boost the efforts in shedding light on the fate of the missing persons and in establishing good neighborly relations, underscoring that a different policy, one of peace and friendship, proves possible. In Paulin Dvor, Josipović said that the victims commemorated there "deserve an apology".--

OK, even I have to admit that this is a step forward. what is the point of just obsessing on the animosities, ancient and/or recent? horrible things were done, many horrible atrocities committed in croatia, mainly by serb forces ag. civilians, but also by croat forces. the so-called ethnic cleansing was pushed by the "independent" serb regions; then the tables were turned, and the serb population was left to fend for itself. milosevic shrugged his shoulders. most of the serbs were pushed out under appalling conditions, led by their so-called leaders, with miles-long lines of refugees on tractors. unbelievable sights, all of them, and evil compounded by evil. and some of the elderly and disabled left behind to suffer or be murdered, par usual.

on the other hand, "Storm" basically ended the war, and helped to stop serbian-led ethnic cleansing in N bosnia in its tracks. that's the history in a nutshell.

tadic has plenty to apologize for, but at least this is a start. as far as prosecuting "their" war criminals, in what decade will that happen?

this apology has yet to happen in either Bosnia or Kosova (by the way, by the time of the war in croatia, the "jna" were nearly totally cleansed of non-serbs, esp.ly bosniaks and albanians! that was just an ignorant assertion.)

the so-called apology about srebrenica, which was a cold-blooded massacre of some 8000 mostly male civilians, was forced by the eu, and even at that, they removed the word "genocide" and then soon passed a resolution about "all of the serbian victims." there were many serbian victims -- most of all, of the genocidal policies of milosevic and co. but juxtaposing the 2 themes made an utter joke of the "apology." sad.

meanwhile, the blgd regime (tadic and co.) rallies for their proxy demagogue do-dik. they are clearly supporting the legacy of milosevic/karadzic/karadzic, and that needs to be made crystal clear (if it isn't already.)

there are so many open wounds in bosnia, you almost don't know where to start. tadic hasn't. and then there is the continuing harboring of mass murderer mladic. un-speakable.

as for Kosova, tadic and co continue the milosevic policy, minus the active military actions -- no choice, thank god for NATO (here). the comments from a few of the posters here about racak are beneath contempt. there will always be the deniers, we have been fighting them since 1945 and long before.

how can tadic and co. even begin to apologize to the people of kosova? as they are still waging a campaign ag. them... and even recognizing Kosova as independent would not be some kind of automatic "get-out-of-jail" card. mass graves all over kosova, and of albanians all over serbia. mass killings, mass graves, and industrialized burnings, all covered up. layers and layers of lies and cover ups. more than 1000 ethnic albanians still missing, and hundreds of serbs and non-alb's as well. layers and layers of lies...

so yes, one step in the right direction, but miles to go, many many miles. we shall see...

as for the serb media, they continue to run some of the most disgustingly racist anti-albanian comments; they facilitate them. what's the underlying message...

The Vukovar dead were SOLDIERS - even the ICTY court admitted that they were virtually all part of the Croat military.

Furthermore, official autopsy reports proving HOW they died weren't really provided.

I think most of them were died in the shoot-outs and street-to-street fighting which was going on at the time.

But because killing enemy soldiers in battle is not a war crime, the media and Croats make up a situation that they all were captured and then executed. Yet there were many captured who were turned over without a scratch or jailed and then turned over without a scratch.

Serbs have shown official autopsy records for their dead whom were brutally murdered, complete with the official signature of the doctor doing the autopsy and complete findings.

I find the non-Serbs go on repeated hypes more than actual presentation of evidence.

But Tadic is a traitor who will kowtow to anyone and to the EU. He was born in Sarajevo and many say he is of Montenegrin and Croat background.

Tadic is doing a better job than most people would like to admit.. all sides suffered.. its time everyone moves forward and starts concentrating on economic prosperity rather than who killed who first and whos good and bad... blah blah blah

As an Australian of Macedonian ethnicity.. to me all the Balkan peoples are the same.. regardless of religion, dialect ect ect..

I'm amazed at the stupidy of the Balkan wars.. no logic and a total loss of life and wealth for the people of the region...

A very courageous step by Tadic. Coratians now must reciprocate and start sorting out the issue of Serb refugees from Krajina.

I wish Tadic would do the same and apologize for Serbia's crimes in Kosova but I highly doubt it. Croatia is much more important to Serbia economically than Kosova is.

I wihs the Albanians would apologize for any crimes towards Serbs in Ksoova too but I doubt that would happen until we get recognition of our independence from Serbia.

Things move at a snail's pace in the Balkans but as long as they move in the right direction I'm happy.

For now a job well done by Tadic.

All I had to see was "Tadic apologizes.." and I just knew what kind of comments I would be reading here. Either "why not also apologize for this? Why not apologize for that?" or "Look at the western puppet kneeling. Serbia should not apologize for anything!". It is truly sickening that people can't just let a leader move a country forward and instead have to criticize every thing that he tries do do for the country. You people should be ashamed of yourselves!

winston

You are correct, Truth. I am guilty myself of being suckered in by these trolling pro-Albanians here. It is just that their comments are so ridiculous and unjust most of the time, that it is difficult to control oneself. Like with this story, can you imagine the audacity of asking Serbia to apologize to separatist, terrorist LKA Albanians, for something they started? I know it hits you right in your victimized Albanian soul, but the documentary on YouTube is an accurate, independent German production, not German government propoganda. It was made ofr TV, and was posted on YouTube, so please save us with your attempt to discredit it. The so-called "humanitarian intervention" by Clinton/Blair/NATO, etc., was devised to get rid of Milosevic, and strengthen the NATO, and take it from a defensive force, to an aggressive force. It was not to save poor Albanian separatists. You can keep your head in the sand till you die, fine with me. But you are living a lie. Why wouldn't you want to know the truth? And your comparison to some end of civilization movie on YouTube is irrelevant. one is based on myth, and one is based on reality.

Mr. Tadic,

You should be ashamed of yourself. Do you honestly believe that the leaders of Croatia or their ally the USA/Nato would ever apologize for what they have done to the Serbian people over the past 20 years? The reason why the Yugoslav lead Serbian army was ever sent into Vukovar was to protect the innocent Serbian populace from the Nazi lead dictaroship in Croatia at the time. It was Franjo Tudman's goal to drive Serbs out of Vukovar. He succeeded in Knin and Krajna. Where to this date Serbs can't return to their homes. When will Serbs ever be able to return to their homes or when will their be a wreath placed by the USA/Nato and Croatian leaders for the Serbian victims of the war? NEVER! Tadic has truly shown his true colors as a puppet of the USA. I must say, it was worth all the effort. Upon completion of said task...I apologized for humiliating him and went about my business.

He was born in Sarajevo and many say he is of Montenegrin and Croat background.

roberto

pre 13 godina

Mr.

Yes, war is ugly and the innocent suffer as leaders of the war use civilians as pons in their political battle but to apologize...come on! This apology is another requirment in order to strengthen Serbia's EU bid.

Notice the Dutch officials on both sides.

Most likely, it was 'suggested' by the Netherlands for the Serbs to apologize to the Croats in order to help convince the Dutch that the Serbs should be admitted to the E.U.

What a load of garbage!

Where are the demands for the Croats? They ethnically cleanse over 250,000 Serbs from their ancestral homes - massacring thousands of innocents - and get away with it without any consequences whatsoever!

Yet Serb soldiers kill ~200 Croat soldiers hiding in a hospital that massacred Serb children in Vukovar and all of Serbia has to repent!

For now a job well done by Tadic.

Bryan,

Are you saying it's better for all sides to live in denial and for no one to foster better relations?

You are right to question those who should apologise to Serbia, but give Tadic and Serbia credit for having the guts to stand up and be the first to apologize and move towards better relations.

Croatia under Josipovic seem to be heading in the right direction and they will also be going to visit a site of Serb victims.

"You apologise first" will not get anyone anywhere.

Don't know about Bosnjaks, but you are dead wrong about Albanians in JNA. Long before that, K-Albanians were not answering calls to join JNA, and those that were active , they switched sides and joined Croatian army in big numbers. How soon you forgot General Ademi that was aquited for war crimes.
(Kosova-USA, 4 November 2010 16:26)

And for all the Albanian’s efforts in the Croat army they kicked all of you out during Operation Storm. If I was you I’d hide the fact that your people were stupid enough to even contemplated joining the Croats.

Go and talk to William Walker and the KLA because they murdered the villagers in Racak to trigger NATO’s actions. You might also thank Bill Clinton because he was fully briefed over this action. And the Albos have erected a statue to old Bill.

How about we ask when are Thaci, Ceku, Haradinaj & the rest of the thugs going to apologise to Serbs.

Please don't say you have nothing to apologise for. Let's start with ethnic cleansing which started after WW2 and continue right up to the time you started murdering Serbian policemen and 2004 to now.

Plenty there.

I agree with you Bob and also with President Tadic that the past has to be recognized by all parts and put behind, so we can write a new page of the future made of tolerance, respect and cooperation. But to do so, all crimes have to be punished .

Last week, I was in an altercation with an albanian man wearing a t-shirt proclaiming death to Serbs. Challenging him to stand up for his beliefs, I proceeded to knock him back into last week. I must say, it was worth all the effort. Upon completion of said task...I apologized for humiliating him and went about my business.

Good move Mr Tadic...

Get over it!

Perhaps???

Yep - for instance Zoltán Dani is a true ethnic Serb. "Zoltán" is a traditional Serb/Croat name, quite a few people around Vukovar and also in Vojvodina have it.

The problem is that the main principle of nowadays Western politics concerning Balkans is like this "everybody have right to separate except Serbs"

This is a very morally and courageous act by both Presidents. Instead of freeing oneself of hatred through forgiveness, ( a very noble act) , the absolute obsession with some on this site to hold onto bitterness and hatred and spew all forms of negativety and bile is astounding.

"Blessed is the peacemaker..." sound familiar. You may want to go back and read that.
