“It’s important to report news truthfully”

Deputy PM Božidar Đelić says that it is very important for the process of EU integrations that media in Serbia report news truthfully.

"Media are here to tell people the truth about what is going on and to point to what needs to and can be better."

If only that was the case. In fact the media are there to sell copy. But thats hardly suprising considering in this capitalist driven world where the principle of personal profit overrides principle of responsiblity to others.

There are notable exceptions to this rule in the media - some investigative reporting still exists but its languishing in a program schedule of reality shows and (spanish) soap operas. Equally newspapers are dumbing down by the day and serious newspapers are either losing circulation or increasingly covering such heavy issues as celebrity gossip.
