Then you should emigrate to "Kosova" asap! I'm sure many in Belgrade would be more than happy to bid you a fond farewell!

Not to make anything clearer JohnnyC, but Belgrade opened a passport office (whatever) down south (Niska Banja) quite a while ago where albanians from Kosovo can get an up to date passport in exchange for their yugo one.

Just put 'passport' in the b92 search box and you will discover:

Serbia, Kosovo Passport Conundrum

http://kosovo.birn.eu.com/en/1/31/23350/?tpl=80

Maybe the question should be, how many of those kosovo albanians who hold a serbian passport will give it up when and if Kosovo ever is accepted as a UN member? The other question is about dual citizenship...

Are you replying to the right comment? You don't make any sense.
(Peggy, 22 October 2010 04:37)

No, he's right. Not to beat a dead horse, but certain past Serbian governments did in fact strongly "encourge" emigration of the Albanian population from Kosovo. Many of the emigrants still reside abroad.

I have a question.

Since most Albanians in Kosovo do not have Serbian documents and thus are not allowed to enjoy the White Shengen Vias, and I believe that eventhe Albanians from Kosovo who have Serbian documents are not allowed to participate in the White Shengen Protocol, doesn't it seem logical that most of these asylum seekers are not from Kosovo, but from other areas of Southern Serbia?

The article is unclear to me on just where these asylum seekers are coming from.

Peggy,

you seem irrationally attached to a certain false perception of Serbia.

I'm in Belgrade and I know an Albanian (one of maybe 5 who live here), who had to go to court to get a new ID card.

Things aren't good for Albanians in Belgrade.

Go ahead and retort with "you're an Albanian", or some such nonsense. I'm a Serb and have seen first-hand naked discrimination of (friendly, loyal to Serbia, speaking Serbian without an accent) Albanians in Belgrade.

Peggy

@ Winston. Albanians and Romas are leaving because where they live there's no investments from their government.
There are no jobs in Serbia for the Albanians.
They are discriminated day in day out.
In Serbia jobs go to Serbians and no to ethnic albanians.
(Whatever you say, 21 October 2010 20:33)

Do you have any evidence of this?
BTW, Serbian government does not control Kosovo. What's their excuse?

Peggy

Albanians fleeing from the wonderland, that is the newborn, Kosova. I would actually give the Kosovo Albanians visa-free travel. Within months, Serbs would be the majority in KiM again.
(winston, 21 October 2010 15:51)

That is what Milosevic era regime thought, but they were prooven wrong. Look where Milo and Serbia is right now.

"i dont know whats the matter with serbia let all the Roma's and albanians go if they want ...

(gajo, 21 October 2010 21:54)"

Since the governments that most recently received the White Schengen didn't do anything to discourage the bus companies that are transporting these people to Western Europe I tend to think they've been trying to implement your suggestion. The problem is that the receiving countries can't deal with countless numbers of new job-seekers or welfare-seekers in this economy. At least, under the Schengen visa agreement, they have a stick to threaten countries with that don't prevent their poor and unemployed from leaving en masse. Maybe now the governments will deal with the travel agencies and their false advertising about the easy life in Sweden or Belgium. Otherwise things could become uncomfortable for their better-off voters.
