Tirana, if Albanians reciprocate, and burn Serbian flags at some event, they will only place themselves at the same level as these hooligans. Be my guest.
(winston, 13 October 2010 17:48)

Not at the same level but close. To be on the same level they would have to do it on another country, say France for example, terrorize the other fans, burn down businesses on the city streets and steal products from their stores. Then it would be on the same exact level. If they do burn the Serb flag in Tirana the Serb Hooligans would still be a level up in terms of idiocy.

LOL, I do not know if this warrants Laughing Out Loud, it's sad, actually. But thus is what these troublemakers need, a few good whacks across their heads, may make them think twice next time they want to create civil disturbance and destruction. These organized thugs do not represent the good people of Serbia.

Paolo

@David
for your information only the Referee has the possibility to suspend a football game when he belives the conditions for playing (whatever the cause is) are not guaranteed. This is the UEFA regulation and has nothing to do with italian's choice.

Hey guys, slow down please. How can you be sure that this mess was made by Red Star Fans?! Shouldn't you need some kind of evidence first?! It is so easy to blame just one group but... arrest them first, put them under investigation, testify them, sue them and finaly - find out the whole truth.
(bob011, 13 October 2010)

It's easier to use a group of fans as the scapegoat. Easier to say Zvezda fans than bring shame to all the Serbs. Just like in Belgrade last week it was easier to say "football hooligans" then "Serb protesters".

Hi Olli

I do know these people, and I don't accept their excuses. They choose to follow a defeated philosophy. They do bring shame.

Anything based on intolerance, harm, hate, destruction, gangs, etc., has no future - most people in the population are better than that and view this behaviour with disgust.

David

I agree with my fellow countryman below, irrespective of the hooligan problem that Serbia clearly has, as witnessed by the incidents at the Pride Parade, the Italians have cheated their way to a 3-0 "win" in the most difficult fixture in their group. I honestly cannot recall seein a match abandoned for so little, a couple of fireworks and no violence - Serie A sees worse every week. I sincerely hope Serbia thrash them in the return.

The answer is inside your question. You mentioned the word "idiots", didn't you? Otherwise I am not really sure, what is going on. If a perpetrator is known and he is known to commit some ugly things on a regular basis than he should be in the jail, correct?

Coming from abroad, married to a serb and looking at what happens on ALL sport events in Serbia something must happen. I have been to two international big events i Belgrade Arena, one match between Serbia and Slovenia in the last two months and in several other smaller sport events. And there is a pattern om bad sport and huliganism at all of them. There is only one solution - don´t allow teams in any sport to play until their public behave like human beeings.

Well, probably the Serbian hooligans think they have won their personal match against the rest of the world. I don't know if they realize that they damaged the image of Serbia and they did it in a country, like Italy, where Serbia has a lot of "fans". They have been used by somebody who planned this "action" and they acted like good soldiers without brain. It was also an easy target. Everybody knows that Italian police is strong against the weak and weak against the strong and in Italian stadiums anybody can do whatever he wants. Here is not England or Germany.... Anyway, 3 - 0 for Italy in the most difficult game of the tournament..... Just beacuse of a bunch of fanatics and three fireworks....

Serbia is at the point where things have to get worse to get better... we have got to that point where the average Serbian citizen is not going to take intimidation and embarrassment caused by a politically and patriotically extreme sect of our country.

All the best to the UEFA, I hope they ban us from future games this year, we need a clean slate and a while to think about the state of our country and our football. Also, all the best to the riot police on future dealings and that the delinquents and hooligans that are ruining my city and country get whats coming to them.

Things only change, when ordinary people in numbers fight against evil.

What does Kosovo, Albania, or the Albanian nation have anything to do with a EURO qualifier between Serbia & Italy being held in Italy???

Berlin

This is just anger that many young Serbs feel towards everything that has happened to Serbian people. Kosovo is the problem why all of this happens, burning flags, and screaming at the pride parade Kosovo is Serbia. Everything is linked to Kosovo, until that issue is solved things will keep getting worse unfortunately for the normal Serb people.

I think that Italians used reputation of Serbian hooligans to win this game without playing, being under a lot of pressure (WC early exit, EC qualifiers bad start…). I’ve seen tons of games played under a lot more difficult circumstances . Look at the facts: 2-3 flares, 2 guys sitting on the fence and yelling. Nothing special if you ask me. They used same tactics back in the 80s to end English dominance in Euro cups.

bganon

Is anybody in any doubt that when you let treat somebody too softly they think they can walk all over you?

In a way we are as much to blame as the hooligans. We as society have somehow given the message that this behaviour is ok.

Bob wrote: "They bring shame on their country. Perhaps that is what they want."

Bob, you don't know these people. The problem is much more difficult. When they act violently against homosexuals, beat domestic or foreign football fans, fight on the streets or at football stadiums, they think they bring glory to their country and nation. And if they ever are in doubts, they find people even on this forum to support and strengthen their belief.

Time for Serbian Hooligans to stop destroying everything. Time for these 'though' guys (when they're in a crowd) to face the reality and spend some times living the very hospitable serbian prisons in which they will turn out to be real losers unable to be though when they're not with their hooligan! I hope the state will apply the law to the letter without paying attention to anything else. These people have to face the consequences of their acts. The line between hooliganism and terrorism is very thin and these people must be captured, accused, judged and put in jail. No pity must be shown to these 'terrorists'.

Hi guys, shame on us to choose Genova as the venue (the strrets leading to the stadium are narrow and it's very difficult to control people), shame on our supporters to whistle at your national anthem, but it's not accetable to have such a behaviour from civil citizens as Serbian are in year 2010. Please do something. Ciao da Milano.

This is terrible! The unacceptable behaviour of these football "fans" at the match and at the parade really reflect poorly on Serbia. I don't think a swift beating by police is enough. A lot of my countrymen need a real change in mentality.

The match seems to be off, and Italy will likely win 3:0 by default. Paradoxically, this is the best thing that could've happened for Serbia. After the rioting on Sunday in Belgrade over the pride parade, when thousands of well-organized hooligans and pro-fascists attacked the police that was guarding the parade, today's incident is the final nail in the coffin of Serbian hooliganism.

After getting into an open war against the state's enforcement apparatus, they have now lost any residual sympathy they had among the sections of population that agreed with them on political issues, if not on their methods.

Numerous arrests, swift justice and hefty sentences are likely to follow, all to the cheers of the people.

Tirana, if Albanians reciprocate, and burn Serbian flags at some event, they will only place themselves at the same level as these hooligans. Be my guest.
