-- Really, Kate? Can you find me just one thing that has to do with this protest and the Albanian ethnicity. There is nothing in the article about it. Yet you cannot let one occasion escape and not badmouth the Albanian ethnicity, even when the news has nothing to do with Albania or the Albanian ethnicity at all. Unprovoked, you always badmouth our ethnicity; same as Winston. The other day he was making fun of how un-European some Albanian names are; as if Sinisa defines Europe for example. Post like these are the definition of a personal-agenda against our ethnicity. The least you can do is be honest to yourself. No need to convince us.

You are right, Nikshala, that most Balkan states are very intolerant towards homosexuals and think that gay people can 'be cured'.

But the way that the Kosovo Albanian posters are going on about Serbia, you would think they lived in San Francisco or London!

Here are just a few links about the situation in Kosovo:

"Gay man from Kosovo granted political asylum in the U.S." ( http://www.metroweekly.com/news/?ak=2706 ), "Gay, Lesbian Youth Leaders Under Serious Death Threats" ( http://www.ukgaynews.org.uk/Archive/07/May/2403.htm ), "The Secret Life of Kosovo’s Gay Community" ( http://madikazemi.blogspot.com/2009/09/secret-life-of-kosovos-gay-community.html )

Johny: "Kate has shown time and again that she has a personal agenda against our nation, against our ethnicity."

I know that I really shouldn't rise to your provocations, because if you have followed what I say then you simply wouldn't genuinely conclude that anyway.

You got that wrong entirely. I have nothing whatsoever against Albanians, whether they are from Kosovo or Albania or wherever else.

My stance is to defend the right of Serbians and the injustice that has been hurled at their nation for many years in my name as a British person.

I am quite aware that there are no angels in any of the Balkans conflicts, and certainly many devils who have done unspeakable things. But the point is they are of all ethnicities; both perpetrators and victims.

It is the individual who is good or bad and not entire nations.

Unfortunately, the balance of this has been skewed out of any rationality by the media and politicians (often same thing) blindly spinning the 'Serbs' as the baddies and the Albanians/ Muslims etc. as the goodies.

It is this I take personal offence at, and I feel quite justified in trying in some small way to present a counter-argument to the spin.

And while I find it reassuring to (nearly always) agree with Winston and Zoran, who to my mind are both very good commentators, I can assure you that we are not 'one and the same'.

I'm flattered that you think so, but trust me, there is more than one of us... now that's a scary though for you.

By the way, Zoran, good point about the globalisation protestors.

-- Don't be surprised dude. The only ones with personal agenda's against Albanians are of Balkanian stock. Kate has shown time and again that she has a personal agenda against our nation, against our ethnicity. Deeds speak louder than claims that are made behind a keyboard. The deeds in this case is to do anything possible in your power to blacken the name of Albanians even if issues are not related or relevant to them whatsoever. This is the definition of a stereotypical Serb. If you don't believe that take a look at Winston. What Kate and Winston do in this website has no difference whatsoever. Same with the likes of Jovan. You make your own conclusions.

Oh, and I forgot to mention. What about all of those G8 and anti-globalisation protests? In Genova, London and other cities around the world where great destruction occurs. Why aren't the governments and people held responsible for them? We are essentially talking about westerners causing destruction to western cities.

We people are passionate about something, we tend to get the same response everywhere in the world. Serbia is no exception.

Who gives a damn what they think. I'm at a boiling point over this meddling into the internal affairs of Serbia by this extrmeme Liberal Euro platform.

I mean lets be honest, the openly homosexual German Foreign Minister, Guido Westerwelle, didn't come to Belgrade for helping solve the differences between Serbia and Kosovo, but to push Belgrade/ Serbia into allowing the gay parade regardless of the consequences.

Germany and Holland, arguably the two BIGGEST racist nations that excist based on historical validity are simply testing the waters regarding Serbia in order to see how far they can push Serbia to follow it's agenda. They knew that the reaction to this abomination would be, and are using it to further fuel the anti Serbian sentiments. The rioters were not simply anti gay, but protesting against the continued subserviant attitutdes Serbia's current leadership is displaying in order to achieve a worthless EU membership.

Wrong...resistence is not futile.

Its amazing how you as a non-serb and apprently unbiased, jump at every opportunity to make a negative remark about Kosovo / albanians even when the article has nothing to do with it. Great job at praising Serbia tho!!

I do not doubt that some albanians have said they are homosexuals and in danger for the purpose of getting asylum in UK - they have said many other things as well, doesnt mean they are true.

Please list one incident / attack in Kosovo related to someons sexuality. I am not saying that Kosovo society is more open to homosexuality, or that no attacks ever happened, but im impressed with you unshameful ability to twist the truth and try and shift attention away from the issues highlighted in this article.

What can you say about a Eurocrat like this Kujon guy? He should be ashamed of himself for even suggesting that Serbia's EU integration may be hurt because of the protest and violence of specific groups. Belgrade should be congratulated for making a parade like this possible, when it is overwhelmingly unpopular for the general population. The United States is the most crime-ridden country in the so-called free world, and it places itself as the beacon of democracy for everyone else to follow. And look at all the riots in France, where entire Muslim neighborhoods were ablaze for weeks. It is easy to point fingers at countries that are trying their best, Kujon. If the EU is made of representatives like you, I would not want anything to do with that Union then.

Patrik

Leave it to a politician to condemn activities in some other nation in order to divert the spotlight from their own problems. How many riots in existing EU countries have we seen this year already?

kujon

pre 13 godina

The violence is not only in Serbia and to us ethe vioence as an example of Serbia's inability to support minority rights is narrowminded. The parade was held, supported, and protected as best possible. The police did not let groups through and they suffered the most injuries but still fought to hold the peace.
Violence erupts on these issues across Europe, where there is Hate Crime and in the USA as well where teenagers are committing suicide rather than be subjected to the narrowmindedness of their peers.
Serbia is not alone in this regard and to use this parade as a tool to support anti-Serbian policies is blatantly wrong.

kate

pre 13 godina

Excellently put kujon - the police should be congratulated for how they handled this situation.

I don't think this is about the gay rights march at all, but more a general showing of dissatisfaction and frustration among the people.

Plus the usual rent-a-mob which also appear at every demo in the UK.

The State allowed the gay rights march to go ahead and protected the rights and safety of the marchers. Good for them.

Serbia should be congratulated for this, and not subjected to the negative and scathing comments I have seen on here.

As far as Serbia is concerned, it must feel that they are damned if they do and damned if they don't.

Hilary can go whistle rather than top it all off with her 'independence is a done deal' wishful thinking useless messages. It's just heaping insult on injury.

Oh, and when are the pro democracy politicians in Pristina due to hold and protect their gay rights march in such a way? Probably never, judging from the fact that people have sought asylum on the basis that their lives will be in danger if they return to Kosovo because they are gay.

P.S. Is wannabe president Cedomir jumping on every bandwagon nowadays? Don't know the guy but it seems that he is a total careerist with no ethics at all - reminds me of Bliar.
