I recommend that Serbian citizens just ignore this parade. Do not give these gay pride marchers the attention they want. If you are on the street where this parade is happening, just turn your back towards them as they pass by. I do condone violence against anyone, but I do not like forced acceptance of someone else's lifestyle.
(winston, 7 October 2010 17:09)

They don't want us to accept their lifestyle. They genuinely want to be left in peace. But such parades are IMO a wrong tool to achieve that goal.

I don't think there is some sort of intended "western conspiracy" behind the parade, rather it's a not-so-lucky by-product of unavoidable globalization.

But yes, the neo-liberals DO love it. And that fact alone makes me dislike it - precisely because I don't like neo-liberals. Neither neo-cons, of course.

Still, IMO it's a good thing that the government shows some support for it - out of political correctness. But see, even in Silicon Valley the things are a bit different than what you may think. San Francisco is the northern boundary of it - but what happens in S.F. is being often smiled at in Sunnyvale or Palo Alto. No need to mimic it even in San Jose (they do tough!) - not just in Belgrade. And many of the gay people stay out of it by intent. The gay rights is one thing, this kind of circus should be a non-event. But this kind of exhibitionist behavior fits well with American mentality *** and benefits local business a lot (the MAIN reason, LOL!!!)

But hey, if you want I can kiss a girl or two and make a "straight parade" on my own. But even that is better not in public... for better taste.

----------

*** Very difficult to explain, but in America certain behavior (beating own chest) is mandatory to achieve anything. For instance, shamelessly list all your achievements is mandatory during the job interview; I never managed this to perfection and still wonder, how come people aren't shy to beat their chests that way. Pretty similar to these parades, at least in the spirit.

Don't try the same in Germany, Hungary or Russia (probably not in Serbia either) during the job interview!

That could be changing tough... the world becoming more and more "Americanized" and I am not necessarily happy about it because above-mentioned countries somehow tend to adopt from America things I don't like, not the things I do like.

Good news: "Domestic, foreign officials support Pride Parade".

Bad news: the hate-monger VOSF (Voice of San Francisco) made bad news out of good news.

"this time, for once!, the intl comm has forced serbia, meaning the blgd regime, to act in a civilized manner"

Answer: no one did force them, they decided to organize things better. Here even trivialities are a serious work. For instance if there is no poisonous, skin-burning red goo (by-product of aluminum industry) spilling into Danube - than it's already an achievement. If there is (that's the norm!) than it's just Balkan-as-usual. Same with parade.

---

"Tough Love is the only thing that works with them. they hate it, they hold their noses and put up a fuss, but in the end they give in. typical bullies."

What the heck is that???

"if put to vote, the lgbt comm in serbia would be lucky to be supported by 10% of the public in serbia. and similarly supported by most societies. xcept, perhaps, in the scandanavian countries, and maybe a few other progressive euro nations. certainly not well supported here in the US, our good ole "bible belt." "

I omit the rest of the comment, it's all in the same spirit: the spirit of hate.

OK, where are your comments about bullies of "Bible Belt"? All the hate goes towards Serbs and Russians. No occasion is spared to spread the hate. And there is nothing personal in what I am saying. You could be the best person in 1:1, I just don't know you close. But your comments are not just totally off + provoking (that's still within tolerance), they are also full of hatred and you manage to make a negative thing out of positive news. That two is of primary concern.

My private concern is, you make with every comment like this OUR (and you know what I mean by "our") life more hard. You can write out of your San Francisco what you want, it's far away. We are THERE, not that far away. Thanks but no thanks (again).

This why I say "autistic comments": comments totally ignoring other people and their circumstances, rotating around the same fix idea (Stockholm syndrome?). I did not see much willingness to learn and for someone who can't distinguish between written Albanian and written Serbo-Croatian you allow yourself quite far-reaching things.

Ida,

Why the rights of minorities shouldn't be left to a popular vote should be obvious.

Let me put it this way: The rights of gays shouldn't be based on popular vote in Serbia any more than the fate of Serbs in Kosovo be up to a popular vote in Pristina.

--“I am sure that the Pride Parade as an event will be marked in Serbia’s modern history,” the human and minority rights minister announced.

Lazar Pavlović of the Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) said that Head of EU Delegation to Serbia Vincent Degert, Head of the OSCE Mission to Serbia Dimitrios Kypreos and Head of the Council of Europe Office in Belgrade Constantin Yerocostopoulos (would participate?)

“I would be honored to participate in the Pride Parade together with my colleagues from the EU,” Degert said.

He also expects members of the Serbian government to join the parade on Sunday.--

Well, it appears that the pride committee has gotten their act together and good for them. on sunday, all lovers of human rights will be at the parade, at least in spirit.

this time, for once!, the intl comm has forced serbia, meaning the blgd regime, to act in a civilized manner, and protect their minorities, in this case widely despised minority. that is major Tough Love, exactly as we have said so many times -- Tough Love is the only thing that works with them. they hate it, they hold their noses and put up a fuss, but in the end they give in. typical bullies.

that's why we have our constitution, to protect democratic rights, minorities. it's the basis of our democracy. imperfect as it is...

in serbia, they still have the kostunica constitution, which is the work of anti-democratic hacks, and was rushed thru in days. someone's idea of "democracy."

anyway, all of my love and support to the pride marchers this sunday, and best of luck because you'll need it. please be careful.

to the police and the belgrade regime: the whole world is watching! don't blow it again!

to those not into this event: don't go!

The same foreign and domestic officials who ignore or even promote abuse and withholding of the rights of Kosovo Serbs. This is meant to provoke. It is not democratic if the vast majority of the people do not want it. Why not have a vote as that would be truly democratic about it?

“…a test whether we in Serbia are ready to organize something that a majority of the country’s citizens do not like”

I find that comment to be very menacing indeed.

It strongly suggests what many people already suspect - that this parade has little or nothing to do with furthering any kind of human rights.

That’s the real reason why the majority of Serbia’s citizens do not like it, and not because of some inherent homophobia that most people don’t have the time, money or nerves to concern themselves with anyway.

This is just another crude Western destabilizing technique.

So now the Tadic government will honor them when not even Yugoslav Army heroes are so honored. The Tadic government will even let into Serbia foreigners to march with this minority. I suppose this is all in in line with his "EU has no alternative" plans. Must all Serbs bow before the EU as does Tadic. I hope there is no violence.
