Peter,

The EU cannot be blamed for the economic problems of Romania today.

The salary and pension cuts, as well as the strikes are due to irresponsible Romanian politicians who wasted a lot of money.

These irresponsible Romanian politicians did not put any money aside during good economic times. The politicians spent all the money instead of building up a budget surplus. Therefore, Romania today is forced to ask for loans from the IMF.

Regarding Poland, I read recently that Polish politicians are planning to adopt the Euro in 2015. Is it possible?

I hope that Romania and Poland will adopt the Euro as soon as possible.

I just wanted to mention one thing I wrote a couple of years ago, so people can see how Serbia is viewed by the US and their friends.

In the year 2000, in a letter to German Chancellor Gerhard Schroder from Willy Wimmer, (member, German Bundestag and Vice President, Parliamentary Assembly of the OSCE), he discussed the key points of a conference called “ Is Euro-Atlantic Integration Still on Track?”, held in the Slovak Republic, organized by the American State Department and the American Enterprise Institute (the foreign policy institute of the Republican Party). It was attended by political representatives from many European countries. The main topics of the gathering were the Balkans and NATO enlargement. Here are some of the key points of the conference that Willy Wimmer told Gerhard Schroder about.
------
Speediest possible international recognition of an independent state of Kosovo within the circle of the allied states.

It would be good, during NATO’s current enlargement, to restore the territorial situation in the area between the Baltic Sea and Anatolia such as existed during the Roman Empire, at the time of its greatest power and greatest territorial expansion.

For this reason, Poland must be flanked to the north and to the south with democratic neighbor states, while Romania and Bulgaria are to secure a land connection with Turkey. Serbia (probably for the purposes of securing an unhindered US military presence) must be permanently excluded from European development.
------
The part in the brackets is in the original letter from Willy Wimmer.

Always remember this Serbs when you think that they are your friends.

“Serbia must be permanently excluded from European development.”

Mircea, tell me, how well is Romania doing nowadays, being a part of thie glorious and illustrious EU?

From what I know, I heard there were some serious salary and pension cuts, and a great deal of striking as a result thereof. Doesn't sound quite as pretty as you seem to paint it in your posts about the EU.

I am pretty certain Serbia is not keen on such an alternative, even if it were the only one, since I doubt countries like Germany, Netherlands, France and UK will be particularly enthusiastic in accepting more Balkan countries to develop by pouring vast amounts of money into, since the last few years have been rather heavy on their pockets (PIIGS).

Zoran, unless Serbs have finally woken up in the last two years, Kostunica's position will only gaurantee a loss. Before the previous elections, I posted a message to whatever Serbian forum, news website or communication platform I could find, warning the Serbs about the EU and showing them what would happen if they continued to bow to them. And since that time, much of what I have said has been shown to be true, and if Serbs continue this path, more will be shown to be true. But at the time I posted the message, my message was deleted from many of the forums, and I recieved so many nasty replies and hardly any positive reactions. I was being treated like I was an enemy to Serbia for saying such a thing. After that experience, I didn't say anything on any Serbian websites, because I figured that if the Serbs think I am their enemy for saying the things I said, they are so lost and fooled that it is pointless and a waste of time and energy to say anything more.

I recently got the feeling that I should speak again, so that is why I started posting comments here.

Here is the message I posted before the last elections.

Sorry Mircea, there is an alternative and that's something you'll realise soon enough. The EU/US were strong in the 90s but that was its peak. It must have looked great joining these all powerful alliances back then but joining something at its peak is the wrong time, because once that peak is hit it's all downhill from there. That is exactly what we are witnessing now.

The western alliance is small - consisting of about 1 billion people, however, what has kept it strong is its unity so nothing could compete.

On the other hand, the east is big, consisting of about 3 billion people but what has kept it weak was its division. There was no leader until now with the rise of China.

So the eastern alliance is now forming (BRIC) with emerging economies so this is the best time to join in. The feast in the east will be one nice and long growth that will dominate the world for a very very long time.

Sorry to say Mircea but the signs are out there already. The west pushed eastwards as far as it could but that is now being reversed. It started with the puppets in Ukraine and will eventually take back Serbia, Montenegro, BiH, Hungary(?) and even Romania.

This cycle has already started. At the end of the day, if you don't already realise, it's all about the economy stupid. Western economies are dead ducks - fat cats with low productivity can't compete with the east. Cheers!

"Koštunica said that there is an alternative to the EU and that the goal of DSS is to build a country with a strong economy, independent of foreign centers of power."

Yeah, kind of what we heard in Albania for 45 years.

For those that see EU as a sinking ship what makes you think that being outside of it will keep you afloat? If EU is sinking, and by that it means Germany, France, Italy, Britain etc. are sinking, will Serbia, be the sole survival in the "chaos"?

"We tried to convince SNS that that a road without an alternative is a dead alley that will lead us to ruin. Only weak states that have no will of their own can follow a policy that has no alternative," Koštunica said in a statement....

Do the DS and SNS politicians ever look at what the European and world markets are doing??? The EU is in serious financial trouble, and there is no doubt that EU will be collapsing soon from the debt burdens of many of their socialist countries and policies. Many within the EU are putting tremendous "spins" on...but the bottom line is that the EU is frantically trying from day to day, to postpone their economic collapse. So don't buy into Tadic's "theory", which was written in Belgium, that there is "no alternative" but the EU. Why grab onto a sinking ship???

As usual Kostunica shows his inability to be a team player and the cost will be an ever shrinking, more irrelevant party with only prospects to make a coalition with Seselj. He has done this backstabbing too many times now, with too many different parties.

Come next elections I predict that even LDP will have more support than DSS. You might say what does that matter if he is right - but the whole aim of politicians is to put themselves in a position of power to be able to change things. If they are not competent to do that (and to gain the support of their people), they are not competent to rule. In Kostunica's case he is more like an embittered old man in the kafana (not that he would do such a thing, he is too out of touch to sit in a public kafana) complaining about everybody else, but never taking positive action himself.
