"Members of HPS are saying that Vukovar is the sacred soil and those unwilling to admit that fact are not welcome in Croatia."

Sacret soil? Ridiculous. Maybe they should proclaim a Croatian Mekka, where only Croatians are allowed to enter :-)

Yes, that also means that no Croat should ever go near Jasenovac.
Besides, Croatia stated the bloodshed not Serbia in that area. It was the Croats who were smuggling arms though Hungarian border in preparation for a civil war. What are they crying about now?

HB this topic has been debated a thousand times. The original objective was to keep Jugoslavija together - it was only when Slovenia (and Croatia) declared independence that what you call Greater Serbianism was born.

Its boring to argue about it frankly. But you are wrong again - if Jugoslavija had been maintained I would still believe that those people died for nothing. That those unfortunate people were just tools of political leaderships that could not solve their disputes in an adult way.

If you want to believe that those who died were in any way meaningful, thats your choice. They will be forgotten by history, just like the countless millions of others used and abused by power elites.

And for what, in reality what changed? I've been to most of the countries of former Jug since the break up and I was there before. So I'll give you my answer - NOTHING.

The wars in the former Jugoslavija were completely meaningless. The people on all sides that died, died for nothing at all.

What your really trying to say is, because Serbia's goal of a 'Greater Serbia' was never achieved the war in the balkans was meaningless. If you say it was so meaningless why did the citizens of Serbia allow the JNA tanks to proceed, blowing kisses and giving the thumbs up to destroy Vukovar. Not once did the Serbs see the war as being meaningless until Krajina become defunct.

Enough already with the Serb, Croat, Bosnian, Muslim BS. All the people that live in the Balkans have been there for centuries, the man-made borders are a ridiculous thing to fight over. The borders are man-made, get it, nationalists? How about preaching peace and harmony for a change. It just may improve everyones life in the Balkans?

"Those party followers have a desperate need to believe in a certain version of history, because their quality of life is so bad today.

What they should really be doing is focussing all their energies demanding investment from Zagreb and regional authorities." (bganon)

-- Spot on as always. 15 years after Vukovar, the city and the surrounding region remains in economic shambles, with unemployment hovering around 40%. Additionally, Vukovar remains almost 50-50 divided between Croatian and Serbian communities that are as "divided" as Mostar. What have the Croatian authorities been doing since 1995 to help? Obviously economic depression and political isolation breeds supporters for HPS. But perpetuating a sense of Tudjmanesque anti-Serbism is not going to help the situation, especially when Vukovar sits on the border with Serbia. Tadic's visit alongside Josipovic can go a long way in moving reconciliation forward.

Sacret soil! Well, Kosovo is sacret to Serbs but no one seems to care. Croats should learn how they preach: Forget about the past and look to the future. If Serbs should forget about Kosovo then Croats can forget about Krajina.

he should visit and establish the Serbs to be unified and vukovar is serbian lands in history and part of the krajina region but we all should live side by side but krajina including krajina vukovar should have full autonomy and talks should start soon and all the Serbs will return to their home lands and then we could all live in peace and Harmony now we know there is just over 300,000 Serbs back in krajina and croatia so serbs have big and most populace minority and should get the status.

Its funny That the Croatian Nationalist HPS President his last name is SRB.
That means one of his forefathers was serbian and now he is a Big Croat Nationalist......

Instead of denying President Tadic to Come to Vukovar they can better come up with ideas for a better cooperation beteewn Croats and Serbs.
Dont look in the Past Look in the Future!

The wars in the former Jugoslavija were completely meaningless. The people on all sides that died, died for nothing at all.

What you saw for example in Croatia was the getting rid of one power elite, for another power elite to be put in place. That power elite was just as bad, if not worse than what you had before. The only difference was that it was Croat. Remember that it was Franjo that said he wanted Croatia to be ruled by 100 families. You must be familiar with all the corruption that went on in that period and the corruption that goes on today.

For the ordinary man nothing has changed in reality.

We are told that an extreme right wing party does not want Tadic in Vukovar. Frankly, I couldn't care less. Those party followers have a desperate need to believe in a certain version of history, because their quality of life is so bad today.

What they should really be doing is focussing all their energies demanding investment from Zagreb and regional authorities. Those authorities are currently very relieved for this 'diversion' and will encourage it quietly from a distance.

Yet again power elites abusing their people to cover up their mismanagment and corruption.

HB

pre 13 godina

Once again 'Communist Croatia' is wanting to be a part of a 'Mini Yugoslavia'. This works well with the Serbs as it's a platform for a 'Greater Serbia'. If someone like Tadic is allowed to visit Vukovar, all what we Croats defended and fought for was just an absolute waste of time. The thousands of young men who died in the hands of Serbian agression was meaningless. Tadic has never admitted that the JNA had direct part in the destruction of the city. I am so sick of these peasant politicians who haven't got a clue about what the actual people on the ground want, this is not just in Croatia but Serbia and BiH as well. The citizens of these countries are so fed up...
