Turkey votes on constitutional reform

Voting is underway in Turkey in a referendum on constitutional reform.

The Turks are in a catch 22 situation.Voting against those reforms will give credence to the reactionary kemalist opposition CHP which presided over several army coups and never ending economic cycles of boom and bust.

On the other hand the AKP which emerged as a"moderate"
islamist party only because its previous incarnations were struck down by the turkish army, has managed to stabilise the economy and also curtailed the powers of the army.

The biggest problem for the voters is the creeping islamisation which the current goverment has introduced on all walks of public and private life.The question is whether the turkish population want to end up having a country that resembles current Iran or Saude Arabia.

I still think Erdogan will win the vote.

Nominal Secularism doesn't preclude having sympathies for the religion and its believers. If Turkey gets into the EU, Turks & other Muslim immigrants will be able to come to Serbia if we get in and become prosperous enough to attract immigrants.
