U.S. Koran burning event "on hold"

I kinda suspect this to be a publicity stunt by the pastor.

This terry jones is such a far-out extremist, even for the evangelical xian movement. his intolerance in NO WAY represents american thinking -- it is on the very, outer fringes. really sad, and frankly dangerous.

i hope that people around the world, esp.ly Muslims, will realize what an outlier and wacko this guy is, and not take such an isolated act seriously.

but i fear w/ the volatile and dangerous international atmosphere, it is exactly such acts that serve as pretext for yet more mindless violence...

what ever happened to tolerance, understanding and diversity...

This so-called pastor is such an extremist and so un-representative of 99.9% of americans, even the bigoted ones. really, like book-burning is the answer, in this crazy and volatile atmosphere!

unfortunately there's not much we can do to stop him if he stupidly insists on going forward. but there are various protests. here, in the east bay, one of the progressive jewish groups will be holding a public reading of parts of the Koran, and i would attend if i were closer, just to show my revulsion at this bigot's bad deeds, and my firm belief in tolerance and diversity.

and to show my solidarity w/ my muslim frnds, whatever i may personally think of organized religion(s) in general. that is not the point.

It will probably happen. The West has a pretty rich history in book burning so this is nothing new. People have been burning books in the west since the Romans. On HNN.org there is an article called "playing with fire" about the west's book burning heritage. It kinda makes you wonder why people are so surprised all of a sudden.

I kinda suspect that he will actually do it tomorrow. He managed to link his issue with the NYC mosque issue, thus taking a little cover. I wonder who he is actually insulting; I would not be surprised if the Korans he has are english translations. There may be peaceful protests by american moslems, but I seriously doubt they would step on or burn american flags during their protests. Worldwide moslems could take cover by saying these are not the actual words.
