France has defended itself against criticism from a United Nations committee over its Roma repatriation program.

Sarkozy's other reasons for expelling the Roma apart(falling popularity and looming elections),everyone staying in a foreign country needs to satisfy the requirements for staying there.

This raises the following questions.Did the Roma apply for residence status in France?Did they secure accommodation anywhere?Were they actively looking for employment and if they did how would they support themselves and their families
before they secured one?

I think one should not be called racist for insisting on a sovereign state's right to enforce immigration laws.
The French goverment were elected by the people of France to serve the interests of their country.The French taxpayer has no legal or moral obligation to subsidise every
illegal foreigner.

Therefore, the Roma should follow all the legalities as far as residency is concerned
and become productive residents so as to avoid any future suffering.
