Karzai also said these contractors were in contact with "Mafia-like groups and perhaps also funding militants and insurgents and terrorists through those funds."

This is not news. It's well known that nothing enters or moves in Afganistan without agreement with the Taliban.

A recent US congress report heavily criticised a $2.2 US goverment contract for trucking services, which said the security companies involved in protecting road convoys were paying protection money directly to Taliban.

Karzai is daydreaming. There is no way the US and its allies which rely heavily on private mercenaries to secure their logistics and embassies will assign that role to Afgans. The Afgan security forces are riddled with corruption and are not trusted by the west.

As to Karzai's claim there was a "clear" course toward possible future peace talks with the Taliban this is just wishful thinking.Only two weeks ago mullah Omar from the Taliban said his aim was to expell all foreign troops and their puppets from Afganistan.

My advice to Karzai will be to start looking for a country willing to provide him with asylum status. His days in Afganistan are numbered.
