I said "Kosovo under Serbia", not Kosovo under Yugoslavia.

Last time Kosovo was under Serbia in 1999, almost half of its population had to leave their homes and flee to neighbouring countries.

Of course, Kosovo today is not Sweden, but at least it has one problem less, ie Serbian rule. Now they have to work on the rest.

Assuming all of the above is correct, is still less worse than what it was when Kosovo was under Serbia's rule.

I recently watched the gathering in Kumanovo for Tito’s birthday on HTV and there was an enormous crowd, but what was interesting the numbers of young people and some of these were not even born during the communist era. A young Croatian man stated that “in the past we all had jobs and housing, and although the pay was not fantastic we all had a decent life, but today we don’t have jobs, housing nor pay. So what was the point to Croatia breaking away from Yugoslavia only to slowly sink into poverty where 80% have little to nothing while 20% live in wealth?”

The point of this story is go and ask the Albos in Kosovo how they feel now that they are now receive better treatment under their own so called government. My statement is correct; there is nothing made up.

During Yugo days Kosovo had factories and people were employed, but now it has nothing. Perhaps you might think of emigrating to Kosovo to look for work or to soak up that air of freedom, eh?????

Well described - Kosovo today is a ghetto. In fact it now has the highest suicide rate in Europe even surpassing Sweden; it now rivals in numbers of people trying to escape to the EU with Africans refugees. So that does tell you how well things are going in “independent Kosova”.

Rehn also gave his support for the recently reached agreement for a credit arrangement between Kosovo and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), stating that this fulfills one of the important prerequisites for emergency financial help from the EC, which could be worth up to EUR 30mn

Only 30mn. On another thread KosovaUSA was laughing about China donating EUR 500mn to the Serbs.
This 30mn must be a real joke to him now.

Has Serbia done any lobbing against this one, yet?
It will be waste of time and money.
(Kosova-USA, 18 August 2010 11:15)

I certainly hope Serbia has not done any lobbying. This is just another form of aid to Kosovo and nothing else.

You being a taxpayer is just a drop in the ocean buddy. FYI UK aint the only country who contributes to Kosovo, its mostly Germany followed by Austria and Scandinavien countries. Take care of your Pakis and the radical muslims in UK, they sure appriciate more of your tax £.(Jörgen - Swe, 18 August 2010 13:51

You will find that the biggest contributors to Kosovo are all former Nazi countries such as Germany and Austria. Considering that the Albos were on their side in WW2 why would it surprise anyone?

All handouts, but no investment. Welcome to the ghetto of "indipindient kosova". It's no wonder why Snoop Dogg likes it there so much.(Rod, 18 August 2010 16:32)

I think that at the moment, this is what Kosovo needs more than further recognitions...availability of funds for investments.

Corruption will always be a problem, but then again, the World bank, EBRD and IMF weren't created yesterday and I'm pretty sure they have procedures in place to deal with "high corruption" countries.

I would be very happy if the Nordics got more involved in the Balkans...and not necessarily in a financial way (loans, handouts, whatever). The Balkans in general could definitely use their expertise in clean, stable governments and consensus-based political decision making (that seems to be the norm in Scandinavia). That's my impression at least.

Jorgen you are right. The UK managed so far to contribute very little to European funds.

Great news the drip feed has been switched from Yugoslavia to Serbia and now finally the EU.

Serbia gets to keep Kosovo while the EU pays Kosovo's historic welfare bill.

Evweryone's happy.

Yet another scheme being set up to continue the money black hole that is Kosovo. More politicians and their extended famileis will get rich at the expense of my tax £s.
