There were no organic traces in the soil sampled taken from a suspected mass grave site near the town of Raška, B92 has learned unofficially.

Under normal circumstances I'd tend to agree. The difference here is that this is supposed to be a reburial site: some of the bodies had already - allegedly - been in the ground for months, somewhere else.

But this discussion may be getting too gruesome for a family newspaper. I do think, thought, that in order to avoid controversy it might have been better to ask Eulex to participate actively. It doesn't do anyone any good to have something like this drag on and on.

A, you are very straight thinking person.
You might know that every cemetery has a sanitary zone around it, you even can not swim in lakes located near cemeteries. If 250 bodies were buried under building, the traces definitely would have been showed up nearby.

Yet another mass grave, of more than 50 persons (probably bosniaks) has been exhumed. it's believed to be one subgroup of over 1,000 murdered civilians from visegrad, 1992, "ethnically cleansed" by guess who. from the bbc:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-10937461

The exact location: the shores of lake perucac, the same basic location where a sizable group of albanian bodies was exhumed in 2001. as i just mentioned earlier today.

the more things change, the more they stay the same...

roberto - frisco:

I believe the samples that were to be checked for organic content were taken from a depth of 6m to 8m.

Were any of the previous graves excavated to this depth, so there would be some reason for expecting to find this particular of type of evidence at this particular depth?

roberto - you claims of the number killed is impossible, as adding the entire missing to the found dead doesn't add up to your numbers. And the people making the numbers have interest to inflate for the propaganda.

Plus you ignore KLA soldiers deaths among the counted, and Albanians which were assassinated by the KLA. You also ignore that the numbers include from 1998 until January 2001.

The numbers include all the Serbs and Roma kidnapped and killed in the year and a half after NATO and KLA occupation.

You seem ignorant that many Kosovo Roma, killed by Albanians, have Albanian names themselves. The Roma have stated that several hundred Roma killed by the KLA have shown up on lists as Albanians killed.

The Albanians and international community are cheating to inflate the numbers. Cheating by not being truthful of the number of KLA soldiers killed and cheating by counting the Roma as Albanians.

Note that there's no news of this in the mainstream media - despite the claims - WITH NO MATERIAL EVIDENCE - of 250 bodies.

I've said that claims of bodies - before any were found - and claims of who they were - before any are identified - is propaganda. And it's always done against the Serbs in the mainstream media.

Remember the headlines had it seeming as if bodies were already uncovered when it was just a claim.

Oh such a pity for Roberto from San FranSicko! I just know he has been hovering over his keyboard waiting for an announcement that the grave was holding missing Albanians, Jimmy Hoffa, and Bigfoot.
(Jason, 11 August 2010 10:21)
Did you really expect a positive report to come at this time. Affirmation of a mass grave right before Serbia appeals to the UNGA?
When the announcement came that samples were taken in the presence of Eulex and Kosovo officials but no one but Serbian officials were allowed possession of the smaples. Kind of like asking an embezzler to do an audit of the finances in a company, you think?
Let an independent source obtain samples and see what the answer is.

Let me explain, again, regarding the situation with the missing from the "conflict" in kosova, 98-99.

our most accurate # of dead and missing stands at over 13,000. that includes at least 10,000 albanians (this is a very conservative #), almost all killed (murdered) by serb forces: soldiers, police, special services, some collaborating civilians. and, of course, those infamous paramilitaries.
most of the killing occurred during forced deportations of civilians, which numbered in the hundreds of thousands, almost 1 million albanians in total.

some kosovar civilians, a relatively small #, were accidentally killed by bombing from NATO. but this certainly was a tiny minority of those killed; anyone who claims otherwise is lying.

As best we know, there remain appr 1,860 persons missing, incl. appr 1,000 albanians, nearly 500 serbs, and a few hundred members of other ethnic groups.

Beginning in 2001, in a series of terribly grisly exhumations, the remains of over 830 albanians were exhumed at 3 main sites inside serbia: Perucac (50), Petrovo selo (77, police training center) and Batajnica (over 700 in various locales, also police training site). it is all well documented.

inside kosovo, hundreds of mass graves of various sizes and varied locations were discovered during and after the war. some bodies were dropped down wells, others were dug up and reburied; others were burned. if you read the OSCE-Kosovo report that i've referred to, it's all there. and more. and it really doesn't make for easy reading, believe me.

at any rate, all of the information i've given is well documented in a variety of sources, incl in the serbian language if you are so inclined.

as for this particular site at raska -- yes, i do still believe that a mass grave of albanian bodies is located there. this information was originally supplied not by serbian officials (please!) but by eulex. there is no way that eulex would have pushed this claim based on one hysterical claim. in other words, there is a body of long-standing evidence and testimony. i believe that the exact location in UNDER the building and parking lot, but we will not know for certain until the (supervised) exhumation is done.

i have spoken with some people here regarding this system of testing nearby soil for "organic" traces, before a decision to exhume a suspected site is made. they thought the practice rather bizarre and un-scientific. i am sure that this is NOT standard practice in bosnia, where they've uncovered over 400 mass graves of various shapes and sizes. but it does, effectively, take up a lot of time. i will check on this specific point w dr ewa (Klonowski) and share her POV.

the question of the missing remains a vexing one, but many of us have our suspicions, including additional as-yet-uncovered mass graves, and, perhaps even more disturbingly, mass industrialized burnings fr 1999.

the 2 suspected, "alleged" sites are the trepca mine complex (n kosova) and mackatica. both sites were investigated, and a powerful body of evidence, incl multiple testimonies, was collected. unfortunately both investigations officially went nowhere. but for some of us that is not the last word.

at any rate, the bodies, or their remains (or ashes?) went somewhere. and i personally will not rest until we have adequate answers.

as for some of the truly silly or inappropriate comments here, please just consider the source.

thank you, and i welcome (intelligent) comments and additions.

It seems like you only read the title and not the whole article. The article says that the digging has been done in the wrong place and therefore no mass grave discovered. By the way this was mentioned in the Kosovar press two months ago.
Jason you have no credibility and you should be ashamed of making jokes about the missing people. Only confirming that you are doing a poor job and abusing the your position. You don’t get paid to post comments.

If there had really been a mass grave here then you would have expected NATO spy satellites to have captured the image of it being dug in 1999. NATO would have then publicised it heavily at the time.

Therefore I am not surprised that nothing has been found.
