Lenard, you have totally missed my point. Naturally Croatian authorities are not going to tell people that tourism has decreased. That article is flagrant touristy type propaganda.

Serbia openly states that tourism is down. All other European countries are experiencing reduced tourist numbers except for Croatia; Oh I think not. In fact the Croatians count cars going to say Greece or Turkey as tourists because they will buying gas and food while travelling through Croatia.

I rarely miss HTV Dnevnik and for over a year now I never saw a factory opened in Croatia, but I saw plenty of industry closing down so why would the Croats talk about a fall in tourist numbers. That’s their bread and butter.

"Belgrade in itself has so much to see and offer and is one of most beautiful cities in Europe."

You've gotta be kidding.

Belgrade is a garbage dump compared to almost any european city. Air quality is abysmal, streets are dirty, graffiti everywhere, Sava river treated like a dump. Belgrade's one of the dingiest cities I've ever been to.

Belgrade has many charms, but it's certainly not a "beautiful" city by any stretch of the imagination

A 9% increase from the previous year. I do think with an aggressive tourism campaign, Serbia can get similar figures.

Only on paper is tourism hotter in Croatia. As I live and work in Asia the only western country in the region is Australia and it is very, vey savvy when it comes to promoting its tourism. Even the Australians are experiencing a substantial decrease in tourist numbers. They are now starting a campaign to get Chinese instead of Japanese visitors.

The Croatian economy is 80% tourist based you can see why they keep on pushing “bumper tourist numbers” while hotels stay near empty. Its all in the hope of “things will improve if we say so”.

Good for the prices 4 stars hotels at 70-85 euros range..good bargains

OK, we live in BG if there with friends or "illegally" in an office upstairs. But the hotel prices in BG are insanity.

Typical price in the near of, say, Studenica or Decani is 10-15 Euro / person. In the fact, near Decani we were the ONLY tourists in the hotel.... in the fact in the 10 km radius of Decani we were the ONLY tourists.

But regardless: these prices (10-15 Euro/person in am OK hotel/motel) are normal. It's what you get in Vojvodina, central Serbia, Kosovo, Makedonija (except Skopje).

The hotel prices in BG, SK, PR are the pure insanity, totally off. Same, IMO, about restaurant prices in BG (luckily the other two are better).

Same about car rental prices... it's a shame, I have to drive all the way.

But still, I am going every time - as long as these crazy (S)ATA, USB and soon probably SAS projects allow... what a shame, I am now not any better of than while in the States despite being good 10000 km closer. The U.S. company does not allow any vacation :-(

Serbia needs to market itself. It is amazing just how many people do not even know where Serbia is!

Croatia has managed well advertising Adriatic coast and it's islands.

Serbia might not have the Adriatic but it is rich in so much other beauty including it's endless monestaries, forests, mountains, mountain rivers and is well suited for outdoor sports and is a walkers paradise.

Belgrade in itself has so much to see and offer and is one of most beautiful cities in Europe.
