"Among the biggest potential arms deals on the table now are huge fighter jet competitions in India and Brazil, various modernization programs for Saudi Arabia, and continuing support for arms sales to IRAQ, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Lebanon."

The Serbian arms to Iraq are based on a deal in which Serbia forgave Iraq's huge debt to Serbia and Iraq in return agreed to buy a certain amount of arms. Perhaps, Iraq will buy arms above the level they agreed because they become familiar - or just want more of the same kind - they've contracted to buy.

It was a contract overseen by the U.S. which was keen on relieving the new government of Iraq of its debt burdens.

"The U.S. government arms sales for the current year, which ends September 30, are likely to be close to $37.8 billion, said Vice Admiral Jeffrey Wieringa, director of the Pentagon's Defense Security Cooperation Agency.

Sales in the last fiscal year totaled $38.1 billion."

Belgrade is thinking very good. U.S. is the principal exporter of arms to Iraq, so why wouldn't Serbia join. U.S. do not have an exclusive right to trade with Iraq, and new Iraq democracy their right to spend their money wherever they want.
