RE: Albanian Partizans

There is no disputing that Albanian partisans were active against German occupation, the same in Romania, Bulgaria and to some extent Croatia. Albania has always been a split country run by different clans, very similar to Montenegro.

During WWI when the Serbian army retreated through Albania; it was only the Albanian leadership that allowed free access to the Serbian army which eventually found refuge in the island of Corfu. However, other elements within Albania constantly harassed and attacked the Serbian army who were literally starving to death.
Therefore, the current Pasha in Albania did not have control of the country, and to this day, Berisha still does not control the country.

The important thing to note about WWII is both Serbia and Greece never declared war on the allies. Many people like to bring up Milan Nedic, the quisling leader of Serbia during WWII. Many fail to realize that he was the only one willing to take the position and save Serbia from total annihilation as the Germans were to give control to the Nazi Ante Pavelic regime in Croatia. Milan Nedic, a highly decorated Serbian officer never declared war on the United States of America unlike the leaderships in Croatia, Bulgaria, Romania and Albania.

Greece followed the same route as the Serbia and the civilians paid a high price through Nazi atrocities.

Honestly, if you're going to give me lectures about learning, maybe you should learn to read...or read properly at least.

I did not say military comes cheap, but you can address your security needs in a CHEAPER way.

As far as, "doing as you're told" goes, you only have to witness what's going on now, to know that NATO suffers from the opposite problem. At the most extreme, you have the two "village idiots", Greece and Turkey, that are in a perpetual state of war with each other.

SS Skanderbeg is a stain on Albanians, but judging by Wikipedia, they were also a disgrace to the military uniform (undisciplined, useless in battle).

It's just funny how both you and Jugoslavija, completely ignore/minimize the efforts by Albanian freedom fighters, but choose to highlight the battalion of clowns to suit your biases. Not that I'm surprised or anything.

1. High degree of assurance that neighbors will not launch armed aggression. That in itself is reason enough to join NATO.

More benefits:

2. Access to modern military technology, doctrines, tactics

3. Cheaper in the long term. You don't need to have the latest and the greatest in all military hardware..all at once. For example, NATO patrols Albanian airspace. No need for expensive Albanian fighter jets quite yet. Good for the budget.

4. NATO consists largely of democracies. As such, Albania cannot do as it pleases in terms of observing certain minimum standards of democracy and rule of law. So there's peer pressure to live up to the standards other members live up to. In the Balkans, this is most definitely needed.
(Ment, 3 August 2010 18:39)

Reports said that the Albanian soldiers will be deployed "in the southern part of the country where clashes happen at a daily basis".

Where else would they be deployed?
They need more front line soldiers.
They are not going to send the Aussies there, that's for sure.

German Army group E was forced to retreat after soviet army invaded and occupied Bulgaria in fear that they could get cut off and they were also needed in the fight for the homeland...of course the retreat went off with fewer losses since the albanian volunteers from SS division Skandenberg helped the germans escape by keeping the road open and fending off enemy attempets to occupy the road and trap the retreating german forces..i wonder what they teach you in school overthere..

Lets not forget that an Albanian soldier in Afpak gets paid twice as much as an American soldier. Soldiering for hire has been our bread and butter for centuries, so if only 44 are fighting the Pashtun..that's too small a number. Send thousands of 'white hats' with their Kanun vs the Pashtun and the war will be won:)

Funny you should mention this since albanians are the biggest threat to stability. You are nr 1 when it comes to drug- and human trafficing in Europe. More albanians live outside of its own country then in it and hundreds of thousands more would be happy to leave if any country would even consider having you. You are the only balkan nation yet to enjoy the white schengen. In conclusion, you are currently the biggest threat to your neighbours and to the region as a whole.

RE; Stalingrad

The comparisons between Nazi Germany and the US are worth noting.

Many other nations perished and died in Stalingrad; Bulgarian, Croatians, Romanians, who who fought under German command as well as other parts of Russia.

Need it be reminded that Albania declared war on the US in 1941 and was closely allied with Italy. The Albanian army joined Italy in trying to invade Greece and were trounced by the Greek army. The Germans had to send the army to the Balkans because of the poor results.

US citizens need to wake up and see that the democratic principles that used to define America are no more.

The Russians could not control and invade Afghanistan, does the US really think it can?

The war is purely about natural resources, the Taliban are a smoke screen.

Rumour has it that Afghanistan is rich in Uranium, that is why Russia invaded in the first place.
