It seems you are still trying to change the past. Did anyone tell you that Tito and communism died years ago? I agree with you that Yugoslavia was a country with a lot of problems, but the real problems started when it ceased to exist.

‘Serbs sacrificed everything for WWI and WWII and for what? to make a country with the people that slaughtered them?’ (Taylor, 30 July 2010 21:18)

The short answer is yes, Taylor. That was the only way to ensure that such atrocities would not happen again, and the only reason they were repeated after 1991 was because, as with 1941, and even several centuries before that, powerful self-seeking outsiders interfered in the wake of an economic collapse and the destruction of the balance of power in Europe.

Tito was no angel, and I’m no communist, but he did what I would have done in his place. He knew that the first Yugoslavia (1919-1941) was often little more than a greater Serbia – a reward for being on the winning side in World War One.

He did not create an artificial, disparate state as some westerners claim when justifying their interference, but simply tried to achieve as fair a balance as possible in order to rescue a natural nation with (apart from Slovenia and Macedonia) a single language, from centuries of political, social and cultural abuse by foreign imperial interests.

If you cite religion as a basis for nationality, then my country is about ten different nations, which it most certainly is not.

As a united country Jugoslavia was strong in every possible way. Now we are nothing but poor and dependent on aid. The greater the cooperation between former Jug republics the greater the prosperity for its people. I have great faith in our peoples and perhaps we can once again become a force to be reckoned with.

Please don't forget the role of the Austrians, particularly Alois Mock (the nasty little man) who instrumental in pushing for the destruction of Jugo long, long before anyone else said it publicly. They're also famous for being very, very good friends with Germany 70 years ago and even had a Nazi (Kurt Waldheim) as UN Secretary General. His voice is on Voyager probes disc so that if aliens ever do find the probe...

peace - harmony? are you serious? what yugoslavia did you live in? do you know how many Serbs were killed and imprisoned by Tito? do you even have a clue, it was the worst country on the face of the earth - EVER. My grandfather was a slave to the communist government for 15 years because he believed in Jesus Christ. My father was forced out of Yugoslavia at 19 or faced a psychiatric ward where they performed medical experiments on the "disorderly" all because he wasn't a 'yugoslav' he knew he was a Serb, but Tito hated Serbs and couldn't stand them having their own identity. Serbs sacrificed everything for WWI and WWII and for what? to make a country with the people that slaughtered them? do you think that Israel wouldve made a country with Austria and Germany after WWII, and not once but twice. NEVER again will they live under Serbian sacrifice and mercy...NEVER. Serbs were fools to not take the offer of the west after WWI to create one Serbian state where all serbs lived, and serbs had mercy said no and made a country together with croats, muslims, who murdered them. NEVER again let them run to germany for their bread.

This is where Tito got it right and his plan was to not only keep Yugoslavia together but to integrate Bulgaria, Greece and Albanian into one state to counter the burgeoning EU which was called by another name at that time, EEC?

Many Serb nationaists get it wrong when they say Tito was "against" Serbia. Tito's policies were designed to keep Yugsolavia together and increase it's chances of expansion.

Macedonia was given its name and nationality to give future precedence to Greek Makedonia. The Greeks understimated the newly formed republic of Macedonia, but should have reacted strongly at that time.

Albanians were given expansive democratic powers in the areas of education, language and government to plant a seed for eventualy expansion into Albania.

A united Jugoslavija would eliminate any need to join the EU and open markets in the growing Asia markets.

Divided small countries in the EU will have less power and at the mercy of larger mature members.

"Seriously, i think that the sooner the former republics co-operate, the sooner they will prosper and once again be a threat to Germany."
(Another Canadian Serb, 30 July 2010 14:34)

Yes, of course! But don't forget to include all the other former republics! Then and only then the mighty, and of course prosperous, New-YU will, with it's 20something million population, his military and economical power, be an enourmous thread to his direct neighbour, Germany!

We all know that it was only Germany (together with the devil, the USA, of course) who destroyed ex-YU which was living in peace and harmony, because it was too powerful!
It had nothing to do with the some crazy nationalistic extreme president, internal problems of the different ethnicities and religious groups, of course!
