Controversy over statements on North

The north of Kosovo has been in focus lately, this time because of contradictory statements, rather than ethnic tensions.

Let me take an educated guess on what happened:
Everyone knows that ceding the north tip of Kosovo is the logical solution. Keeping it in Kosovo would mean that it very probably will be gradually cleansed of its Serbs. And ceding it would exactly be the kind of gesture that would allow Serbia's government to at least de facto recognize Kosovo. Autonomy would be an inferior alternative and very probably lead to endless conflicts.

Problem is that the Kosovo government cannot allow itself to appear less nationalistic as the US. In this case it looks like Dell has at least somewhat seen the light - and that under that impression Gorani made his declaration. But then Dell got a phone call from Washington that instructed him to stick to the "no border changes" ideology and everything was turned back.

It would be interesting to see if some journalist could find out who exactly in Washington are the core defenders of this ideology.

We are all people. Serbs and albanians can live side by side but that Belgrad and prishtinas politics make it difficult for those people

"Isn't it better to focus on the huge problems facing the rest of Kosovo? Albanians are facing starvation and crime out of the ordinary but still the most important thing on the agenda is winning back the north. Go figure!
Dan"

- Dan, the same could be said about Serbia.
Why don't your politicians hang up the gloves and come clean and recognize Kosovo...say, in return for N Mitro?

Yet, there' parading all over Africa trying to buy votes to slow down Kosovo's entry into the UN...all on Serb taxpayers' dime.

Kosovo politicians are not flying around trying to buy up votes.

Milosevic thought the same about the 10% or so Albanian minority in Serbia(EX-YU) - you know how it ended.

Not the same thing. EULEX will do all of those things; and Serbia signed on the dotted line when it comes to EULEX. EULEX is actually pushing for the courts to open. This is simply because EU want's to have control over the territory so they know what kind of things happen over there. All we've said to EULEX requests is ok open them.

It's one thing if a slip of a word or two is interpreted. But an entire statement? And it's not just Blic that's reporting this, but also Koha Ditore. Methinks certain people in Pristina just don't want their hand to be shown before the play is called. What else could they offer besides maximum autonomy?

"I could care less what 2% of Kosovar minority up there think. Sooner or later, the courts will open, KP will be based, the rule of law will be implemented in that section. "

I'm so tired of this "he said, she said" circus! Either accept the reality on the ground, which would be the current situation or organize new negotiations. There are probably hundreds of opinions on Kosovo.

One more thing. Norhern Kosovo is a tiny area and the albanians are doing everything in their power to get it under their control. Isn't it better to focus on the huge problems facing the rest of Kosovo? Albanians are facing starvation and crime out of the ordinary but still the most important thing on the agenda is winning back the north. Go figure!

How about fighting fire with fire? Why don't the Serbs in north Kosovo proclaim their own unilateral declaration of independence? It's not illegal. What happened to the 30 recognitions?

Get lost, snake. You have no authority anywhere in KiM, least of all the northern part of Serbian Kosovo. Eulex and the US are your masters, so anything you say is meaningless and carries no weight. It is only for local Albanian consumption. And they are getting tired of you too. By the way, when you were leading the KLA, what did your soldiers do with the organs taken out of live prisoners. That is the question on most people's minds.

RKS

Meanwhile, Serbs, who predominantly inhabit the northern parts of Kosovo continue to reject the Kosovo Albanian unilateral independence declaration made in early 2008, and the authority of the government in Priština.

I could care less what 2% of Kosovar minority up there think. Sooner or later, the courts will open, KP will be based, the rule of law will be implemented in that section. Don't forget that we will lock up all the troublemakers, primarily the ones being funded by Belgrade directly. Just a matter of time.
