Maybe the world simply understood the ICJ ruling as it has been: An UDI (in general) is legal
(Top, 28 July 2010 17:55)

No, ICJ referred to a specific UDI (Kosovo’s) declared on a specific date (17/2/2008). It did not say that UDIs in general are legal and no country declared that they understood the ICJ decision to mean that UDI’s in general are legal.

"I'm still waiting for the next wave of recognitions. I expected at least a few but none so far. It looks like the world has woken up."
(Zoran, 28 July 2010 15:24)

Maybe the world simply understood the ICJ ruling as it has been: An UDI (in general) is legal, and nothing was said about the legimity of Kosovo as a state and the right of the Kosovo Albanians to secede after their human rights have been incredibly violated.

-> Nothing changed -> no new wave of new recognitions, maybe a tropical island or an african kingdom now and then.

What is all this fuss about the ICJ ruling? The court simply stated that separatists within a nation can declare independence for themselves, that's all. Anyone can declare themselves independent, anywhere, there are no laws on the books making that unlawful.

Winston
I must ask you a simple question. What is the name of document by the way of which the population declare itself and the territory independent? and also What is the name of document that countries use as reference to recognize that population and territory as independent?

Well, it looks like the manipulated ICJ decision has backfired on Pristina and the West. Hahaha, what a shame eh??

I'm still waiting for the next wave of recognitions. I expected at least a few but none so far. Is the independence movement really that weak? It looks like the world has woken up.

Bitter words there Ian.

You see Kiev is being pragmatic. If Ukraine recognised Pristina's UDD in the morning, there would be nothing to stop the Russian east from saying nighty night :)

We all know who the puppets are in this play and it sure isn't Ukraine. I suggest you look a bit closer to home.

Anyone can declare themselves independent, anywhere, there are no laws on the books making that unlawful. Legally seceding from a nation and attempting to change a nations borders, is a totally different matter. The US/EU is attempting to slam through their Kosovo Albanian nation-building project, and ignoring international laws - let's see what the UNSC and GA has to say about this. In my opinion, it is America that should be brought before the ICJ, and asked why they have the right to attack a sovereign nation, occupy it, and attempt to redraw its borders - all the time ignoring international law. Who appointed them the world's prosecutor and executioner?. Ask these questions at the UNSC.

Moscow's puppet in Kiev has been serving the Kremlin well. Within the first few months of his Government being in power they extended the loan on the Black Sea fleet, which was very controversial. They ended all NATO talks. The most controversial thing though was to unrecognise the Ukrainian Genocide of 1933. So basically what I'm getting at is that this comes as no surprise as the Kremlin controls the authorities in Kiev; after the Ukrainian people were forced and submitted into bringing to power Moscow's latest puppet and thus bringing the Ukraine back into Russia's sphere of influence and control due to Russian media propaganda and holding the Ukraine as a gas hostage. It was the Ukraine's punishment for changing allegiance. The Kremlin has had enough of Lukashenko now, I wonder how long it will be before we see a new face in Minsk?
