Another article on this points out how the employment situation was so much better and the people better off when Milosevic was in power. Aleksinac had 15 companies then but now has only one.

The government/s since Milosevic was overthrown have sold out Serbia and its industry. They sold things at "firesale" prices and the factories were dismantled and parts sold which totaled more than what the factories were bought for. Then the factories just became warehouses for imported goods.

Even conservative Americans were warning on what would happen if Serbia put the DOS in power. They remarked at all the miners and strikers (those who were paid (or at least the mine director at Kolobura (sp) to strike to pressure Milosevic) - the conservative Americans pointed out that most of these strikers would be out of a job in a few months. They knew this because they had read the DOS platform.

Serbs didn't seem to understand or educate themselves about what the puppet government the CIA/BND/etc. pushed (with help of Otpor) was going to do to Serbia's economy and industries.

According to Wikipedia, 17,171 people live in Aleksinac and 57,749 iu Aleksinac municipality. 800 people have signed the petition. The headline "Town wants Milosevic monument" is therefore inaccurate and misleading.
