Can anyone come up with any different question that would have gone in Serbia's favor?

Don't be naive, going to ICJ was a mistake for Serbia to begin with ,the only mistake that the legal team made. That is to even think that Serbia had a chance to win.

bgannon, I agree with you that we have the right to ask questions and get answers. I never said anything else. What I did say is that Kostunica is right here so I don't know why you would mention "this from a man who lost". What has that got to do with anything?

Everyone associated with this must be questioned.

What do you think of this?

@ Kosova-USA -- If the ICJ verdict doesn't bring in enough of the 31 recognitions to try to bypass Russia's veto, then the ICJ verdict won't be much of a defeat for Serbia bc it won't lose lose the UN majority required to get a new resolution and so far we've had Cyprus, Bulgaria & Italy calling for another round of talks (which the temporary institutions are trying to avoid) and ZERO new recognitions by Day 3 of the ICJ aftermath. We probably won't get into the EU though.

I agree with you that just about every countru is asking Serbia and Kosova for diolog, but not about status. Stop dreaming about status talks, and think about neighborly talks and nothing else, my friend.

But the problem is Peggy that Kostunica, had he remained in government, or had his own government, would have continued the court case.

So would he have had to go if this had been the case? And do you think that he would have resigned? Thats my point.

I think that we do have a right to ask what went wrong and who is responsible though. And I think we should actually start with the legal team. Lord knows they are paid enough and are highly educated. Did any of them have an idea that the question was formulated wrongly, or at least allowed the judges to answer a question we did / should not have asked? Who formulated the question? Did any of the legal team have doubts? The legal team also has an obligation to the Serbian people on this and should not be thinking about future money they will earn from the government for representing the state.

From this approach we might find out who bears most political responsiblity.

If the legal reps want to close ranks and hide the truth, then let the media have a field day about their failure.

Koštunica said he had warned the authorities that after pursuing a wrong policy which has led to an unfavorable opinion of the ICJ, every resolution that is submitted to the General Assembly of the United Nations "might lead to a new and even bigger defeat of Serbia".

"might lead to a new and even bigger defeat of Serbia".

I agree with Vojo 100%.

Says the man who should have resigned after leading his party to defeat at the last election...

Kostunica may have a point, but he is certainly one to talk.

==================

There is no shame in being defeated in an election but there is great shame in being a yes man to another country.
Tadic must've known how this was going to play out.
He keeps going on about how there is no alternative to EU and US knowing that is exploiting it to the max.

After this great circus in Hague, Tadic and his merry men must immediately call for an election and ask the people of Serbia to vote on the current policy he keeps or if they want something else. Clearly he has lost the plot. It started with allowing EULEX in and resulted in defeat of Serbia.
We here in Australia don't get to hear how ICJ did not address the real issue. We got to hear how Serbia lost and Kosovo won. It's enough to make you sick and I don't care how much you love this man he has got to go.
