"Take a look at this and think about it.

[link]"

Yes, this was the deal, the Serbian government would go through the motions and then gracefully give up - but they broke the deal by actually trying to win the ICJ case and by continuing to work against further recognitions. According to WAZ, France especially was furious with Jeremic for essentially lying to his "Western partners" (they cancelled a visit by Sarkozy over it, I believe.)

zoran,
you forget one thing:china became an UN member thank to Albanian initiative! we do know that and we do know that china did not ask anything in exchange but only helped Albania in infrastructure then.China and albania have and will always have good relations.

When we Serbs learn who our real enemies are we will be much better off.
Sometimes your closest one can be your enemy.

Take a look at this and think about it.

http://serbianna.com/analysis/?p=626

When are we going to learn?
Even blind Freddy could see that EULEX was dangerous. I have stated it many times.
Then we have the government ask a question that even a second year International Relations studen knew was wrong to ask as they learn that there is no law prohibiting a declaration alone.

I have stated this before and do believe that Tadic was only going through motions so that in the end he can say "we tried our best".

Get rid of him now.

A few years ago we would hear phrases like “Zivot damo Kosovo ne damo” from serbian politicians and ordinary citizens. Today the tones have changed somehow. We hear now phrases like “Serbia will continue to fight for Kosovo with diplomatic means”
I guess this is a big step forward considering what Serbia was capable of doing a decade ago.

Then why go to all this effort to get the opinion of the ICJ? It has all just been a complete waste of time and money. They have not just wasted the Serbian Tax payers money, but wasted the ICJ's and UN's time and money. They have wasted the time and money of all the countries who participated at the ICJ.

If Serbia is not going to accept the opinion of the ICJ, then they should compensate all the countries who spent time and money at the ICJ.

Maybe this is not the right article to write this but having read a lot of comments on B92's site I can't help but think whether this is a European site or I have stumbled across a North Korean portal; or maybe Iranian. I say this because I keep reading to many phrases such as evil America, evil West, evil Germany, evil England, evil France, west imperialism, US imperialism, corrupt America, corrupt West, bandit America, bandit west, divine Serbia, righteous Serbia, great Serbia, heroic Serbia, wise Serbia fight the West, fight America, send army to fight NATO, send army to fight America etc. I hope you get the imagery that comes with phrases such as that. In case you don't I will make it simple. The imagery that comes across from those phrases that are stated from the Serbian camp is as if there is an ongoing war going on and the evil West and America has just unjustly attacked poor undependable, righteous, heroic, wise and divine Serbia. I am willing to bet you big money that if you open a North Korean paper or an Iranian paper you would see the very same phrases on that instead of Serbia they would replace it and put Iran and North Korea. There is to much unreasonable and unjustifiable antagonism from the Serb camp. While I understand the bitterness up to a point you have nobody else but yourselves to blame. You asked a question which you did not know the answer no live up to it and stop blaming others for the problems you cause to yourselves. It is appalling that a country in the heart of Europe harbors such animosity and sometimes hatred towards the rest of Europe and the Western civilized world which they hope one day to join and become a member of their organizations. Get a grip of yourselves; phrases like that, attitudes like that are self-destructive. Those phrases radiating hate and contempt towards the west are the seeds of hate you the Serbs are planting and as a result do not be surprised when your progress, when the west turns its back and throws you eastwards. Unless of course eastwards is your choice and where you want to be.

I am an orthodox albanian and yesterday I celebrated with my brothers from Kosova.Kosova should be let alone in its road to join UN and EU.Kosova deserve to be independent!
Serbs always will make the same mistekes in Kosovo as usual.
"The policy in Kosovo will not change"
I have heard this phrase since 1980.Yet you are open for negotiations for the status!!!
What kind of negotiations can you have when you claim "the policy will never chenge"?If you are serious in negotiations and make compromise the policy "must change".
You are still talking as Kosovo is under your administration.Wake up and see the reality!Kosovo is being ruled by Albanians since 1999,and you still say the policy don't change?
The lack of flexibility and understaning the facts on the ground are the main factors that you "lost" Kosovo(because in my opinion you never had it).It seems that you never learn from the past.
Instead of inviting Kosovo leaders as equal in the negotiation table you still saying "the policy never changes" and "Kosovo is part of Serbia"
One more question to serbians:Do you really think that you can govern in Kosovo,if the West decides to give it back to you?Zoran Gingic was smart:I don't want Kosovo even if they give it back to me.But smart people live short in Balkan specially in Serbia.
Congratulation Kosovo in this diplomatic victory! Thanks USA and EU!

It is all about "domination". Serb government (not Serbs, only the governments that they elect) wants to dominate. They want to dominate in the Balkans, do things on their terms when dealing with anything that they think they are superior.
The UN authorized the negotiations in mid 2000’s; they flatly refused to do participate, because they were not able to set the agenda - the UN was in charge. They did not want to talk about the status then, now they are begging for talks about status. They did not accept plans in Croatia, Bosnia, and now Kosovo. The same scenario is repeating again… again, it is too late.
When will the Serb people elect a government that uses rationality, not inat to lead the country?

It says loud and clear: Advisory opinion; my dear neighbors this is an additional lesson to you that it is time to break up with demagogy. I am surprised with the sympathy of the West towards Serbians; you guys have been so nicely treated, so I am astonished to the bone. Zoran,

"I'm glad their plan backfired, which weakens EU and US influence in Serbia while strengthening Russian and Chinese influence."

Google "Europe Map". Serbia is geographically deep within Europe and surrounded on all sides by EU member states that have always had and will always have a deep mistrust of Russia and will therefore not cooperate with a Russian puppet so close to their borders. International relations in the past century and for the foreseeable future, regardless of how complicated may seem to you, are actually quite simple, its simply a matter of who's side you are on.

For al their faults and destructive approach towards my people (kosovar albanians) i think Tadic and Jeremic are actually thinking about the wellbeing of the Serb people when siding with the EU and by extension the US.

A Balkan country already tried to do what you are claiming is best for Serbia and sided first with the Russians and then the Chinese. That was Communist Albania under Enver Hoxha, and look where it got them. Fortunately we Albanians have learned since then.

I seriously doubt that becoming a pariah state is in the best interest of the Serb people.

A BIG FAILURE for Tadic's policy of playing both sides. Now we know why him & Nikolic have been trying to frame Seselj: getting into the EU will now be impossible and Seselj will have been right all along. The question is: does Nikolic know or even care that the EU got him to visit & say a day before the verdict that Serbia has no choice but to join the EU?

The problem is that Tadic and his people wanted to do everything possible to please the US and EU while trying to save Kosovo. Thus, it was like trying to walk on rice paper; not everyone can do it. They failed. Now it's time for a different approach. Now it's time to listen to what the other super powers have to say. What would China do? What would Russia do? I love my country (USA) but some of its leaders are foolish dolts (Clintons). Look at the mess our country is in now. My suggestion to Tadic et al is to find an alternative approach. The EU needs Serbia and is bending over backwards to help Serbia get in. Use that as clout and work together with the Chinese and Russians to formulate a more sane plan for Kosovo. I'll bet that not only will the EU not eschew Serbia but it will actually intensify its concessions to get Serbia in.

Zoran

pre 13 godina

I am quite happy with the decision coming from the ICJ. I mean, why should declarations of independence be illegal? It is expressing the will of the people but the process should always be achieved through negotiations. This would likely result in more than autonomy, less than independence in many regions of the world - Kurdistan, Palestine, SO, Ak, Republika Srpska and Krajina. The biggest problem here being the hypocrits who claim it applies to some but not others.

Now I can see the ICJ decision working in Serbia's favour. So momemtum is now on the ethnic Albanian side. The court ruled the declaration is not illegal. I can only encourage them to use all their might to push through as many recognitions as possible. Go for it my friends, it is the best opportunity you'll get. You'll soon realise, once and for all, that independence is irreversibly blocked. You have elephants in the room that you continue to ignore. Russia, China, Spain, Slovakia, Romania, Greece and Cyprus have already reject recognition and that blocks any possible progress towards independence. It is game over and the only possibility now is through the negotiating table. The sooner you realise that the better.

Another thing I like is that this is not damaging to Serbia but only to the DS party. I'm glad their plan backfired, which weakens EU and US influence in Serbia while strengthening Russian and Chinese influence. I have to go back to my original position where Kostunica's plan to sue each and every country that recognised Kosovo would have been far more effective.

Anyway, the negotiating table is waiting so once the dust settles and this push for recognitions fails (to influence anyone significant), it should be as clear as daylight that a compromise is needed. Whoever keeps their heads buried in the sand will continue to suffer.

Cheers!

Cheers!

It’s 36 C in Moscow and I am melting down. I even missed my job today but I have to come here to keep up my Serbian brothers. I guess we are not going to follow this “advisory opinion”. It’s as evident as that the other side would do the same. But have a few questions I find no replies :
1. How did it happen that 67% of the court represented 35% of the states which were forced by the US to recognize the Serbian province ?
2. While the court’s judges rotation plans are well known beforehand what was the real hope of the Serbian Government when they started the campaign ?
3. After opening the Pandora Box for the worldwide bacchanalia how is this court going to survive itself ?
4. What reasons will the court find to reject Taiwan , S.O. , Abkhazia , Kara bah , Transdniestria and many other de facto free states ?

So Tadic and his regime of sell outs thinks they where smart establishing "facts on the ground" with yesterdays decision on Kosovo? Will serbs take the bait and abandon their southern province?

Hold your horses, Serbs may have been mislead by the western bought puppet regime and their NATO/EU aspirations but Kosovo goes beyond anything as it is the soul of the people. A new party will emerge from this treason, a party that no western money can buy.

It says loud and clear: Advisory opinion; my dear neighbors this is an additional lesson to you that it is time to break up with demagogy. I am surprised with the sympathy of the West towards Serbians; you guys have been so nicely treated, so I am astonished to the bone. Remember you were supposed to pay war reparations to many countries around, in return you are politely asked to give up of your destructive and arrogant policy all the time. Eventually, you “managed” to convince decision making factors that you are so disobedient. Consequently, you are still advised that the reality is reality. But seem that despite of all this you are going to keep running backwards; what is not good! People around along with decision makers are fed up with this non sense.
Let us recall; the advisory opinion by ICJ was initiated by Serbian part, since then all the time Serbian representatives glorified the same court as the most competent, predicting the outcome as a holly letter; suddenly it became so irrelevant and biased etc. I think that this behavior is so unserious for any government.

Here I agree with you Zoran. The ICJ decision really works for Serbia. It will help Serbia to free its mind and move forwards, and towards a normal life for everyone.

Since yesterday independence is irreversibly unblocked. It will be more and more difficult for China, Russia etc. to insist against sth that does NOT violate the international law.

Time is definitely not on their side.

You are absolutely wrong, dear sir! I have done business with Chinese for over 15 years! They care for one thing which is Money. The moment China unites with Taiwan Serbia and Kosovo might not even exist in their world map.

- To claim that Albanians chose the 'NAZIs' as you're emotionally stating is a FLAT OUT LIE or IGNORANCE.

There was a group of Albanians who sided with them which consisted of approximately 5,000 people. It disbanded after 6 weeks.

Albanian Partizans fought against the Germans. How do you think Enver Hoxha came to power? Choosing Communism was wrong.
But so are you. You are 100% wrong.

US is still and will continue to be the world's superpower for decades to come.

As far China...it's going to get stronger but it will not surpass the US.

But keep in mind that many major companies are bailing out of China due to their 'productivity' and their workers going on strike and demanding higher wages. Some American companies are starting to come home becasue of this. Other foreign countries are following suit.
Read up on this. You may change your mind.

Albanians chose the right side. They should've chosen this side 60 years ago.
Serbs should do the same. It will do both sides a favor.
