The Patriarch's comments highlight to me what is a very similar situation in Northern Ireland. Two communitites living side by side but who each have a violent past towards one another. I really hope that over the coming years as in Northern Ireland both communities will realise that they have more in common than they think! What ever the decision today in the Hague, I hope that Serbia and kosovo will see that their future lies in a greater European family.

The court's ruling in the case of the Kosovo Albanian unilateral independence declaration should leave "both Serbs and (ethnic) Albanians" in Kosovo satisfied, he was quoted as saying.

Sure, and there will also be a pony and a double rainbow for everyone.

"Maybe the worst conditions in Europe, hmm, probably not even that."

Where else in Europe is freedom of movement so restricted? Where else can not farmers farm their land for fear of getting shot or kidnapped.

Further, Serbs were kidnapped and tortured and killed in Kosovo for years after the war.

Where else in Europe are churches looted then burned then exploded and then kept in ruins? No where else in Europe are even cemeteries attacked and the dead dug up and the bodies taken away, as in Kosovo.

Where else in Europe do you still have 150-200 thousand people unable to live in their homes and even safely go back and visit?

Top,

you hit the nail on the head. This pope exaggerated out of proportion. From my POV the serbs in the north have been left to rule themselves since 1999 with Belgrade's interference. These Kosovar minority live at a much worse condition than Kosovar Serbs in Gracanica, Prishtina, Decan, etc.

He can't just associate Prishtina's government rule with horrific economic conditions in the north because that's hardly been the case.

“Serbs in Kosovo today without a doubt live in the worst conditions humans can face in the world, and that is why tribute should be paid to them,” the patriarch said, and noted that he had witnessed this fist-hand during his recent trip to the province.

What an exaggeration. "worst conditions humans can face in the world". There are people starving in Africa, other people got executed or imprisoned by terroristic regimes.

Maybe the worst conditions in Europe, hmm, probably not even that.

Only in places like Serbia and Iran can a cleric speak as a head of state. Not only that but this "man of God" is engaging in lies and propaganda. There are plenty of places where humans live way worse than Kosova; and with salaries coming from both Belgrade and Prishtina, with unpaid electricity and taxes Serbs in Kosova are not doing bad at all. Much better than a lot of Albanians.
