Miri - If you want proof of what I said just google Reuters and 'Serbia wants international court opinion on Kosovo' from August 2008.

When it became obvious that western states would not abide by the ICJ decision then Belgrade's continued acceptance of the decision would potentially give the Court an easy way out. It was at that point Serbia's position changed. Belgrade just wanted to remove, or limit as much as it could, the danger that the Court might make a political
ruling to keep the supporters of the UDI happy.

Really, what is so difficult to understand about this? You just don't seem to be able get your head round what is a fairly simple explanation of why Serbia's position on the ICJ ruling changed.

But I agree with you on one thing: there is obviously no point discussing it any further. If you don't understand it, you don't understand it.

miri

pre 13 godina

As it happens, in the first weeks after the case was presented Serbia did say it would abide by it. It was only later it changed its stance.
(Jim, 16 July 2010 19:01)

I'm sorry but this is ridiculous. Serbia can do whatever it wants with the court's ruling but it cannot justify its interpretation on what the defendant, K in this case, would have done, and further more proclaim it before the ruling is even handed out.
Please don't continue with this logic.

Jim

pre 13 godina

Miri - stop and really think about it for a minute! It makes perfect sense. Would you agree to accept a ruling if you took a case to a non-binding (but nevertheless influential) tribunal if your opponent said that no matter what happen your opponent said that he would not accept the outcome. You would be a liar if you said you would!

As it happens, in the first weeks after the case was presented Serbia did say it would abide by it. It was only later it changed its stance.

As for the argument that Serbia has said that it will not recognise Kosovo's UDI regardless of the ICJ opinion, I have said it many times that this is a response to claims by supporters of the UDI that they will not reverse their recognition no matter what the Court says. If Serbia says it will abide by the findings even if the others don't then you create an incentive for the Court to make a political ruling, knowing that Serbia will accept it. If the supporters of the UDI had committed themselves to accept the Court's ruling then Serbia would have had no choice but to do likewise. You can't pin this one on Belgrade, I'm afraid!

Really, I have explained this several times and still I hear the same arguments, 'but Serbia says that it won't recognise the Court's decision'.
(Jim, 16 July 2010 08:10)

What kind of twisted logic is this?
Serbia, the initiator of the hearing, declares first that it will not abide by the ruling if is against its interest. Why would K-Albanians would agree to the ruling if it goes against their interests then?

And now you are saying that Serbia will not agree because the other party won't agree, then why have start a hearing in the first place?
Please get serious, it's a shame that there are politicians who are so shallow.

Spunky,

My comment on Albanians as being gypsies from Turkey, The Middle East or India was meant as a direct counter statement against PNR's statement about Serbs. It was not meant against Albanians in general. I am glad to read that reasonable Albanian visitors reject PNR's extreme comments. I agree that there is nothing wrong with gypsies as well. They chose that lifestyle so there is nothing I can do about that. However, I disagree with you that you are putting visitors like Ron, Peggy, Kate and others in the same category like PNR plus it is completely silly to assume that their personal pro-Serbia comments had any influence on the geopolitical process that is going on on The Balkans. As if the ignorant politicians in Washington DC, Pristina, London, and Berlin for one second would listen to anybody.

I am an Albanian. I DO NOT agree with PRN's opinion about Serbs as Russian gypsies. Thats ignorant and just an out of this world comment. As per his comment I think i know what part of KOSOVO is. It's their way or the highway. However, I would like to bring up the other comment made by Milan who mentions the Albanians in same sentence as Turkish, Indians, Middle eastern! WHY? that is as ignorant as PRN's comment. Not that there is anything wrong with those people. So why bring them up. PRNS, Jovans, Rons, Peggys, Kates, MichaelCs and some others with their extraterrestrial comments have made it possible for Kosovo to be independent sooner than foreseen. thanks for that.

"He expressed hope that the Kosovo Albanian government in Priština would accept the Serbian offer to engage in new talks on Kosovo's status.

"That... road can lead to a long-term solution that would satisfy both sides," Churkin was quoted as saying.

There is no sincerity on the ambassador's statements. The issue of Kosovo is not as simple as the ambassador is trying to represent. It is a big misuse of the word "offer" "new negotiatiations", "compromise solutions" and nonsense like that when it comes to Kosovo status. And I tell you why AGAIN. When it comes to Kosovo status Serbia has declared that "it will never recognise Kosovo independence" and "wants its sovereignity over Kosovo". On the other side Kosovo Albanians have declared that there will be NO return under Serbia's sovereignity, the issue of Kosovo status can not be subject of future negotiations with Serbia.

It is common sense that in a democratic society "we have to agree to disagree". On the other side Serbia has applied to ICJ for an Opinion but has NO intention to accept its Opinion if it goes against the Serbia expectations. Can you see the Serbo-Russian POLITICA JOKE?

Mikael C,

I do not completely agree with your comment. It is quite obvious that PNR's comments have become more bizarre and radical recently and I am afraid that he does not go away (he is a to-stay-here troll). If we do not respond or ignore him he will decide to step it up another notch to get his daily shot of attention and unfortunately there are enough visitors like him that keep encouraging him to continue. In that sense we are dealing with a loose-loose situation. I responded so bluntly because it may be the only way to make him for once think about what he is doing. Once I will stop doing this I will have given up on him completely (which I am close to).

Despite freedom of speech I would like to suggest B92 to consider no longer posting your comments that I cannot even find words for to describe them properly. If you want to embarrass yourself (and you are) that is fine with me. What really worries me is the unexpected high amount of support that you seem to receive (I assume that you and your friends are constantly supporting your comments). It is because of people like you, Kosovo-USA, Lenard and other trash visitors that many of the good and balanced commentators have decided to no longer post their logical comments here that at least tried to initiate a useful discussion. Unfortunately people like yourself interpreted this as a sign of weakness or that Serbs have given up. All signs point to new discussions between Belgrade and Pristina. A negotiated status settlement, approved by both sides is the only way to put closure to this unresolved issue. The only fly in the ointment way be the third side, the USA. Can they live with such a scenerio, that a settlement would be reached without them. Could they walk away with cake ont their face, and swallow their pride? We have to wait and see.

Nobody cares in Kosova or the region what Russia says. Probably Serbia does, since they links with Russians historically since they came from this region and because of that we consider Serbs (as I said last week in a B92 thread) Russian gypsies.

Mr. Churkin, I truly and wholeheartedly thank you for all the support that you have given to my country and my people over the years. It is a pleasure to have a true and an honest friend like you and your country in these times of turmoil that we are living in.
Kosovo and Metohija are, they were and they always be part of the Republic of Serbia in great part thanks to you, because you do not only support our cause internationally, you also give us the strength to go on because we know that we are not alone in this. No anti-serb and pro-albanian propaganda that originates from these so called "liberal" and "EU-fanatical" sites can change that despite all their efforts and funny comments. Best wishes from Belgrade.

out of curiosity what are some of the ideas to all integrate all of kosovo into serbia that hasnt already been explored previously that the albanians would accept.

secondly if the icj were to prove that the albanians had a legal basis to secede, serbia would still not accept it.
what does that tell you!? when serbia had an opportunity to explore any avenues and there were many to keep kosovo within serbia they settled on only one " we want the land but not the people" which is pretty much the quote that will rest on serbias shoulders
