EU 5 unimpressed by EP resolution

The European Parliament (EP) resolution calling on all EU member-states to recognize Kosovo, does not seem to be likely to influence the countries in question.

Tell me, why do you want Albania to join the EU if you are going to be the most irrelevent of all EU countries? How will you feel when people start saying things like "okay, Albania is in the EU, but who cares that they think? They are a poor failed economy state"?

Aleks: "The kind of world where each state hides behind the biggest one in return for protection (isn't that how the mafia operates) are thankfully over".

This remark is questionable:
Isn't this the way a big part of the Serbian population tends to do:"Hiding behind Russia and China in return for international protection of their sovereignty? If it comes to "Mafia" it would be better for the Serbian part to keep silent after a year, in which almost daily new stories about Serbian Mafia structures and killings appear.

It is useless in Serbia trying to start negotiations with Kosova. The Serbs simply do not have international support to force the K-Albanians into new talks. As far as the major democratic countries of the world are concerned new negotiations is a non starter. Serbia must face the fact that the Albanians and their powerful backers from the west have no intention to renegotiate the independence issue. Try as they might, the Serbs will only be talking to a stone wall. Long live Independent Kosova and I pity those who try to change it.

By that reasoning the Serbs should have sided with the Germans and the Austrians in world war one and with them again in world war two. So when faced by someone bigger than you, you run away? Nice.

The Serbs should keep on fighting. They've only got stronger in the last decade and sympathy for albanians around the world has only got weaker. Sure they have powerful backers but it no longer makes sense to destroy Serbia (NATO et al) to please the albanians, especially if the albanians are not paying for it themselves. Then again, quite substantial revenue for the KLA was raised by a forced tax on all albanians abroad and through drug smuggling...

The Serbs also always retain the nuclear option, renounce joining the EU. That makes most of the EU/US threats irrelevant. It's a big world out there besides the EU and US with significant monies for investement by the BRICS and asian states...

It is a paradox to see that the most irrelevant countries in the EU are trying to show "their importance" or worst stop the unstoppable. Romania and Greece two failed countries, Cyprus a town-country and let's not talk about Spain with massive problem with Basque.

What does it matter what you or your Albanian brothers think of these countries?
One thing remains unchanged.

They can and will block your membership to EU. Bottom line does not change no matter how much anger you spew out at them.

Then we have Russia and China who will block your entry to UN. Again, they couldn't care less what you think of them. Bottom line again, no membership and bottom line is what counts.

Who says Serbia doesn't have enough muscle behind them?

JohnC clearly has nothing intelligent or useful to contribute to this news item hence the nastiness and threats from someone who is so evidently powerless.

That the EU 5 continue to stand resolute in their determination to not be bullied, threatened, blackmailed or other out of their sovereign right to form their own independent foreign policy shows the true value of freedom of choice and democracy.

Unfortunately many other smaller and poorer UN member have succumbed to such pressures.

The kind of world where each state hides behind the biggest one in return for protection (isn't that how the mafia operates) are thankfully over.

Ahahaha, well I guess it's back to square one again.

I applaud the integrity of those EU nations who follow their own path rather than being told what to do.

Another diplomatic failure by the EU. Bravo!

JohnC.. what stopped Germany and the Netherlands from doing stopping the checks when it was clear these 5 would uphold international law?

You are over estimating the importance of Albanians in the eyes of Europe. Its almost as if you people believe your the center of European foreign policy. Insane people, open your eyes to reality.

You are a client.. nothing more. When its not in their best interest to fund this failed independence project, trust me they will pull out at once.

I expected sooner or later such an emotional "headline" in the Serbian press. For that I have only one answer:

Just wait when Germany and the Netherlands stops sending their cheques. Then you will be really impressed, especially in this economic crisis.

Cheers!

This resolution is honestly the most desperate act to come from the 'pro UDIs'; leading to a meaningless resolution which serves no purpose other than to try and bypass the democratic process.

Can't they find something better to do with their time and money, like building a school or hospital, or even just buying some books, clothes and essentials for those in need?

The money spent on 'administration', lobbying and, not forgetting, weapons could have had a real impact on people in Kosovo of all 'ethnicities' - just people in need.

Not to mention the money eaten up by corruption at all levels in Kosovo by the local 'admin' and assorted internationals.

What a load of pony.

I have 3 words for the EP, "Shut up already". Leave the countries alone that honor international law, and disagree with the theft of land of sovereign nations. What kind of a world would we have if powerful nations could at will divide and conquer anywhere in the world? Oh wait, the USA has been doing that for decades.

Zoran

pre 13 godina

Yes, just as I expected. This EP resolution is pretty much worthless. The EU has a serious problem regarding "Kosova" and that can only be resolved through further negotiations.
