Ha ha! Calm down AdamNYC! I guess I must have hit a raw nerve.

Believe what you want, but you really are not a real state. A few rich countries and their allies may have 'recognised' you in order to try to calm down the KAs and prevent them from turning to violence (again!) - and then persuaded some poor states here and there to follow suit - but it is absolutely clear that Kosovo is not a full state as it stands.

Your armchair intransigence is amusing, but also worthy of contempt for its total disregard of your compatriots who actually have to live in Kosovo. It's all well and good for you to say such things as you sit there in the US, far (and comfortably) away from where the real problems are, but for the sake of people still having to live in Kosovo - and need jobs, education, helathcare and investment - there will need to be new talks to find a settlement that solves the problem once and for all.

Anyway, let's just see how those in Kosovo will respond when the time comes. Hopefully, some more moderate views will prevail. Indeed, if the ICJ rules against the UDI, you really will have no choice but to negotiate. The supporters of the UDI will need a way to cover themselves and not be accused of hypocrisy on the world stage. (How can they then tell anyone to respect international law when they themselves don't?) Moreover, the UN - the world body established to oversee international peace and security - will be the only acceptable actor for this process. You might not like the UN, but you will have to live with its involvement. Don't think that you can call the shots on this one.

@jim

what does the UN have to do with anything? Kosovo has Already Declared Independence... what exactly do you think is "unsettled" if there is no serb rule for the next 10000 years while kosovo is not a member of an international organization?

all the rest of the political ramifications and joining of international organizations will simply require time...including UN Membership....including the EU. At wich point serbia can continue to shoot itself in the foot by catering to its rabid nationalists element, or join the rest of us in reality.

kosovo's independence from serbia.. oh my, talk about delusions...it is indeed done.

and no, there will be no trade of territories... in fact, seeing as how serbs have such utter contempt for "its" south and are so willing to absolve itself of its responsibilities to it, perhaps its not even fit to hold it at all.

what kind of nation does that?
serbia deserves nothing.

To the deluded Kosovo Albanians who troll these forums, if Kosovo's status was settled Kosovo would be in the UN. It isn't and so the status issue is obviously not settled. You can pretend as much as you like that it doesn't matter and you don't care, but we all know it does and you certainly do.

What is sad is that there is a way out any you refuse to take it. You would prefer to persevere with your sham status rather than discuss a real solution that would trade the north for real independence. You deserve everything you get, or don't get.

In order UN to be able to negotiate between Prishtina and Beograd then UN should first recognize Kosova as equal partner (as independent state) then they can mediate.

What technical negotiation?? it's going to be "status" negotiation. who cares if you dont like the UN coz you will never win a seat there.

The Ahtisaari Package is rubbish and one sided. even it is not a legal document. The UN Resolution 1244 is still at place whether pristina likes it or not.

"To the serb camp ... there were talks mediated by your UN for over 13 months that produced no real results except the Ahtisaari Package.

These talks have already happened, you didn't like the results cried to russia which threatened to veto, we took the talks seriously and implemented the ahtisaari package via the DOI.

Get over it.

NO MORE TALKS!!

Yes, Ahtisaari and his package which failed to pass muster at the UNSC .....

Albanians should really conduct a reality check! Kosovo is still a Serbian province ruled by UN.

UN should be involved in real negotiations. One of the possible results is an independent Kosovo. Just follow the Slovakia route!

The UN cannot be a mediator BECAUSE it is status neutral?
How funny! So far, my understanding was that it's a typical and wanted attribute of a mediator to be independent, neutral, and standing in the middle of two opposing parties?
(Top, 10 July 2010 15:47)
The idea here is that the talks are to be technical in nature with no question as to status. In which the mediator would have to have the same perception.
If the talks were about status you would want a mediator that was status neutral.

Top, its very simple. Pristina was spoilt rotten by the West. It wants another Ahtisaari to do this mediation too.

What a clown. How old he is he? Correct me if I am wrong but last time I looked a mediator is supposed to be neutral otherwise he is not a mediator.

Where do they get these clowns from?
He has the intellect and diplomatic skills of a five year old.
