Spains EU presidency was indeed an abysmall foreign policy failure...

while it held this position of "leadership" it meekly conceded and followed along as the rest of the EU casually stuck 2 fingers up its nose to slowly drag it along reforms it insisted upon on its internal financial front.

so regarding kosovo and eu foreign policy... its stance and actions was nothing more than a song and dance routine meant for ITS own publics consumption... lip service that of course serb propaganda machines exploited at every turn...cruely giving serb nationalist apologists hope where there was none.

Belgiums term will likely see less of the quite impotent political showmanship that spain debased itself with, and more simple political reality.

It's true that during Spanish EU presidency nothing was done, another words they failed at almost everything they tried to accomplish.
With Belgium taking over I'm confident that a lot will be done for the Balkan countries towards EU.

"Time goes by and one day Kosovo will be economical and social equal to Serbia..."

Thanks a lot for your comment Dimi. I was in a foul mood until I read that and I haven't stopped smiling since!

Tymi,
You should hang out with the other EU affairs expert (i.e. the resident b92 romanian commenterwho has difficulty with numbers) and sort it all out between you. You should have a solution by... 2582. And that's a conservative guess!

Wow, I am surprized that you didn't write that you would want Spain kicked out of the EU for being "a total desaster". Actually, while they are struggling, they maintain an economy of over $1-billion and are one of five EU states that have such an economy, so I believe they are a lot more important to the EU than you claim them to be.

Or let me guess, you only say what he said was "extremely poor" because he does not recognize Kosovo?

If anything, it is ultra corrupt and destitute Kosovo and not so much better off Albania that would prove a disaster for the EU if they were eventually let in, compared to Spain.

Or would you not mind spending those hard-earned Euro taxes on corrupt politicians in Albania and Kosovo as much? ;)

Yours truly,
A real EU citizen (whose country is an EU one).

Peter,

I am sure you misinterpreted my comments. I considered 6 months Spanish presidency as disaster, not Spain where I am contributing with my taxes

Probably Belgium presidency will be even worse, But I do not relate this to the country performance itself

Independetly from the very poor comments of Spanish FM, which shows either he has no power to decide and influence the EU foreign policy, or, which I assume, he created this 6 months mess because of committment to Serbia as an old friend of them, Spain shows a total desaster of the EU policy including foreign affairs one. The only success of the spanish guy(s)was to spend some EU money (including my taxes)in Sarajeve which probably help some hotels and taxi drivers to survive for some time. All the rest was a fiasco.

If you cannot change the status of Kosovo now you never will. Time goes by and one day Kosovo will be economical and social equal to Serbia so Serbia will not have the guts to ask about to change the status. It would be like asking Bulgaria or Croatia to change it's status.

By now Kosovo is areal state respected and treated so by most of the powerful countrys of the world. Who needs poor Russia or Kazakhstan. ? Poor countrys with poor friends.

Kosovo will never be Serbian and never has been.Nothing will change without the approval of the 2 million albanians living there.
