Why should Serbia be in any hurry? The chinese and koreans (amongst many others) want to invest or increase investment in Serbia.

The longer Brussels/whomever strings out accession, the longer it will take for the Balkans to stabilize, which curiously is why the EU has a 'Stabilization Pact' for the Balkans. Why have one if Brussels/whomever can not be bothered?

I spoke to some romanian expats from brussels last night. They bemoaned (amongst many things that were supposed to improve once Ro joined the EU) the fact that since joining, food is even more expense back there than in Brussels! I didn't ask them if they voted for Bacescu (less tax for expats) than the opposition during the recent elections.

Ah, voting with your wallets even if it is bad for your own country. Shafting your countrymen over a few euros is quite the sport!

Leonidas,

The Romanian government's decision to slash salaries by 25% has nothing to do with the EU.

The EU cannot be blamed for the austerity measures taken by the Romanian government.

The incompetent Romanian politicians should be blamed for Romania's economic problems.

Ceausecsu was not overthrown by people yearning for democracy but by aspiring plutocrats who needed a scapegoat and used the opportunity to enrich themselves at the expense of the people they claimed to be freeing.

Don't forget that Ceausecsu was the darling of the West because of his opposition to the invasion in Czechoslovakia in 1968 and because he was not a member of the warsaw pact.

As far as the EU was concerned its plan was to free the Eastern European countries from Soviet control only to use its population as cheap labour and its land as military bases against those aggressive " Ruskies".

Sadly as the song goes, its the same boss like the old boss.

The usual daily blah blah from the Borg-collective. Normaly such redicolousness would go unnoticed but...

Just make an attempt to oust the western imposed puppet regime, take back the camp bondsteel-enclave and lean more towards a real friend eastwards (Russia), and €USSR will rush to press the panic button. You will then be welcome to disintegrate into the brain-washed collective in no time...

"Belgium will take over the EU Presidency from Spain in July, and in its program it states that “the integration of the Western Balkans is in the top five priorities,” adding that “the EU is ready to continue the enlargement process.”

Belgium is destined to fall apart in the not too distant future anyway because the Flemish want out. So it might as well enjoy its last hurrah as EU head before the inevitable happens.

Wonder what will happen to Brussels as EU's capital then. Who knows, the EU itself might well fall apart too at the rate things are going! I can just visualize Kostunica telling Tadic "I told you so!"

I am still waiting to see any comment of yours on the plight of the thousands Romanian workers taking to the streets against your goverments decision to slash salaries and pensions by 25%.

I also read that the Romanian
Goverment is applying for a second huge loan from the IMF.Any comments on that?

I think that Serbia will obtain EU candidate status in December 2012.

This means that Serbia will start accession negotiations in 2013 and the country will join the EU in 2020.

I would like to inform the people of Serbia that Iceland obtained EU candidate status and will start accession negotiations with the EU soon.

Currently, the following countries have EU candidate status:

1. Macedonia
2. Iceland
3. Croatia
4. Turkey

I hope that Turkey never joins the EU.

The EU should stop accession negotiations with Turkey. Turkey is not a European country and does not belong in the EU.
