"Alex,

Tell us how it will help Serbia to join EU when you say

"... as of the Lisbon Treaty coming into force, Enlargement becomes Qualified Majority Voting.

"No more veto by a single state."

I think you shot yourself in the foot with the above statement. The overwhelming majority of EU countries have already recognised Kosovo's independence.
(EA, 26 June 2010 17:48) "

Recognizing Kosovo as independent is one thing. Admitting it into the EU is whole different story.

Anyway how did Alex shot himself in the foot? Before Lisbon, any one EU member can prevent an applicant from becoming a member. Post Lisbon no single member can prevent entry -- isn't taht easier for an applicant now? I thought this logic was pretty obvious.

EA,

contrary to your very poor information (or simple lack of interest because it doesn't coincide with opinion?), as of the Lisbon Treaty coming into force, Enlargement becomes Qualified Majority Voting.

No more veto by a single state. Sorry to burst your bubble. Well, no I'm not sorry at all!

"Serbia will never be allowed in EU without recognising Kosovo independence first. The EU countries who have already recognised Kosovo's independence will not allow that. I am following the Serbian logic of "using veto". in solving political problems. Rest assured that Serbia is doing NOTHING TO "appeal" Kosovo Albanians to return under Serbian sovereignity. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!
(EA, 25 June 2010 19:56) "

The EU is appearing more and more like a booby prize these days with its financial problems. What makes you think it is worth Serbia's while to give up Kosovo for EU entry?

In any case these financial problems only aggravate the enlargement fatigue already felt by many EU members. I don't think the Western Balkans are going to become new members anytime soon apart from maybe Croatia if she is lucky.

And oh, by the way, Ron is right. Kosovo cannot hope for UN entry and no amount of breast beating and wailing will help.

Ron,

Let me put it into plain English following the Serbian logic of "solving international issues" by encouraging big countries to "use veto powers" when it comes Kosovo independence.

Serbia will never be allowed in EU without recognising Kosovo independence first. The EU countries who have already recognised Kosovo's independence will not allow that. I am following the Serbian logic of "using veto". in solving political problems. Rest assured that Serbia is doing NOTHING TO "appeal" Kosovo Albanians to return under Serbian sovereignity. China knows: Kosovo = Tibet = Taiwan.

I can image Russia to swap Ossetia and Abkhazia for Kosovo? But I really can't see a deal with this China...

Kosovo will never be in UN.
