@Peter Sudyka

it is hillarious to read a serb apologist use the term wishfull thinking.

of your comment that serbia doesnt need the 5 that kosovo does... well, thats nothing for serbia to be happy about, you still need the other 22.

like it or not, everything the EU does leads up to serbia entering in WITHOUT kosovo. you can wail about it all you wish, that is the reality.

Taking it from YOUR point of view. According to serbia...kosovo is its territory, its people your citizens..right? viva la serbia.

what that literally means, according to YOU, serbia is in fact a country that has no control over a staggering portion of "its own" territory...that it in fact has nonexistent legal authority within it (per the very same un1244 that you yourselves still cling to) and an an even more massive percentage of "your" population that dont even recognize the imagined authority the serb govt. (younger than the paper un1244 was written on mind you) thinks it has inherited from milosevic.

my poor friend, following serb "logic, truth and reality" and looking at EVERYTHING entirely from the serb point of view...

never mind that 22 states dont recognize serbias claim over kosovo..that too is irrelevant and doesnt even have to come into play...

Todays republic of Serbia ...your serbia with kosovo... simply does NOT QUALIFY or even comes close to any standards of stability for eu membership in any way shape or form with kosovo.

thats the reality. and the truth of the matter.

it really is bizzare that you guys cant seem to absorb that... you cant NOT understand now why i found the term "irreversable" so odd.

it will all boil down to 2 things... serbia without kosovo.

or serbia with kosovo, and all the unstability and chaotic state of affairs and absence of serb legal authority that come with it... in wich case CANT join the EU.

just never going to happen.

and not a single explanation has been forthcoming from any serb leadership or those 5 eu states that have yet to recognize kosovo for that matter, on how exactly a serbia WITH kosovo can happen without literally ignoring nearly every standard for eu membership.

so sorry, serbia is being led by the nose to the inevitable conclusion.

Unfortunately for Kosovo, Spain is VERY relevant in light of their political aspirations and goals.

Kosovo has absolutely nothing to do with Serbia's EU membership criteria. This has been made clear. The only real obstacle for Serbia is Mladic and cooperation with the ICJ.

Cyprus got in with almost exactly the same border problem. In fact, considering that Kosovo has not been (and won't be) recognized as a single, independent entity by the EU was a whole, this could perhaps be Kosovo's only ever chance of getting into the EU (that is, unless you can convince Spain, Romania, Greece, Slovakia and Cyprus otherwise).

In any case, you cannot compare Serbia and Kosovo in the same category when it comes to the recognition problem. Kosovo needs those five to recognize them, otherwise no EU, while Serbia does not need to in order to get into the EU, since Kosovo is still recognized under UNSCR1244 and not as independent (this was up to individual countries to decide and not within the framework of overall EU policy).

It is only Albanian wishful thinking that suggests that recognition of Kosovo is a problem for Serbia's EU aspirations, nothing else, especially not reality.

Great then they should tell Serbia in no uncertain terms that arresting and extraditing Mladic is something that that Serbian government has to do in order to get closer to joining the EU. No excuses.

spains support of serbia's foolishness is really nothing more the propaganda by spains inept leadership for its own own internal consumption.

whats odd about the diatribe is the use of "Serbia's irreversible journey to the EU"

whats irreversible? who is trying to reverse serbs journey to the EU? what?

if what spain is really trying to imply, is that serbia can enter the EU without recognizing kosovo... that "no matter" what, serbia can enter the eu while its all up in the air... then that right there is funny stuff.

Moratinos for the principled support to Serbia's efforts toward preserving its territorial integrity and sovereignty over its entire territory, within its UN-recognized borders, the news release said.
The thing is that in major European and world issue like Kosovo, Spain is irrelevant. I am sorry for being so BLUNT but when Serbia is trying to make such a big political propaganda with some irrelevant countries it stinks.

The Serb people need to wake up and see things the way that they are, not the way that they are orchestrated by Washington DC. Spain has never been an ally of Serbia-for those of us who lived through the wars in the recent past we know that Spains role was antagonistic at every step towards Serbia.

What is happening now in regards to Spains "pro-Serb" stance is more akin to an American movie production------you have the good cop "spain" and the bad cop "netherlands". The whole thing is a scam directed by a dying empire and played out by that dying empires vassals in europe. It is meant to bring pressure on Serbia and misguide its people into subservience------it is once again the stick with no carrot.

And the world is made up of many, many nation states.

And the US is only one of them, let me add another question to posters to muse about.

Do any of you think that if that one state didn't exist that Kosovo would have been recognised by any states at all?

Thus there really isn't any point in doing down one state which supports this or that.

I know you're jealous of Serbia, but since they have given their application for membership and are on the EU's Western Balkan agenda, this means that sooner or later, they will be in the EU, no matter much you stomp your little foot or how much you don't like this fact.

Thank God the world is not determined by a couple of chauvinist and angry little Albanians, best one can do is pat them on the head.
