Well said. I also could not believe when I heard that Romania and Bulgaria were to join EU, especially after just admitting 10 new members (one of them being particularly large and being a task to develop in itself).

Then you wonder why people like Wilders say that Bulgaria and Romania should be kicked out. I am sure that other EU ministers think the same thing, they are just not so outspoken ;)

...Romania accidentaly is in EU and as always the most unreliable EU members are always in minority in big decisions.
(EA, 17 June 2010 21:35)

There was nothing accidental about it. Both Bg & Ro were given benefit of the doubt and strict conditions on dealing with corruption, judicial independence (Justice and Home Affairs) were placed on both. They had three years to come in to line and both have failed. Both have had EU funds held back, though Romania has performed better than Bulgaria which has just had a large fund axed.

Why were they let in to the EU? NATO to have ports on the black sea, EU corridor 5 and energy plans that are essential to keep some form of european energy independence, bolstering the Balkans since relations with Turkey (EU & US) have steadily got worse since the first Gulf war.

True, if Brussels actually applied the rules for membership without exception or preference, then neither Bulgaria nor Romania would be in the EU in 2007, let alone 2010. It is an open secret and oft expressed opinion within EU circles and elsewhere that their admission was a massive mistake, but being europeans they will not say this officially or openly.

I may be wrong but I believe Ataman is poking fun at the Albanian poster Rocky. You see, Rocky writes that line everytime some other country does something he likes if it is at Serbia's expense.

Jason - some don't have humor in the form we are used to. If it would be like the famous monastery in Romania (see the link) - it would suffer the fate of Bogorodica Ljeviska in Prozren. And other forms of humor are just plain missing.

My plans to follow Rocky to Somalia was axed in the family after it was discovered that it has several governments and the one which has the most of the country did not recognize Kosovo

http://www.puntlandgovt.com/tourists.php

Unfortunately their tourist web site in Somalia was a knock-off of a corresponding Polish website (notice the text!)

Looking at the pictures my wife decided, Somalia

"When will Romania stop being so subservient and start looking after itself? Get on your own feet, see what's on offer and take advantage. Your loyalty to failing unions/axis is spread throughout your history. Time to wake up." - absolutely true and I say this as a Romanian!

The EU was a scam, a lie. They're after you now. Unfortunately, Romania is rulled like an EU puppet, it has no interests of it's own. Half the population is living worse than when we joined this organization. Stop your politicians from selling you out, as they did with us. With the "integration" will come the "inevitable" crisis, the unemployment, the obedience! You should see the romanian leaders for what they are: just the slaves of their EU=IMF masters.
(Mihai, Romania, 18 June 2010 08:44)

Mihai,

I can't recognize Hungary either after it joined that scam. The only good thing: now there are no borders and soon, there won't be borders between Hungary and Romania. But we could achieve the same much sooner and easier. These borders are not necessary to begin with, all across Europe. For the rest: EU made things only worse. And Euro as currency? It made things even worse, being responsible for at least 20% inflation everywhere it was introduced.

As for vacation? 80% of people here won't take any vacation this year. Since I am paid from the States we can afford more: indeed, we plan to visit the area around Kamenets Podolskii in Ukraina, maybe a weekend in Kiev and in Romania the area around Suceava is in talks. Plus of course Serbia/Kosovo i Metohija for few days. Don't think we can make it to Croatia financially.

Exactly! In the first grade, Romania separates Serbia from the two prosperous countries in the east, Moldova and Ukraine, to be exact :-)
(Top, 17 June 2010 16:05)

Correct, and if the Russians want their precious Southdream...sorry Southstream then maybe we will talk only about Ukraine bordering Romania. However, somehow I find it hard that Romania will become overnight Russian-friendly enough to authorize that Russian pipeline, especially when reflecting how much afford Bucuresti has spent the last years to advertize for NABUCCO. But let us see. Overall I would say that this is a great development. Just read the Russian press (RIA Novosti) and their attacks against Bulgaria. This is very entertaining. They are indeed angry. :-)

Practically all Western states have shrinking GDPs and are in unsustainable debt. You can pick the crumbs with them if you like or we can position ourselves and enjoy the coming feast. A strong healthy relationship with Russia, China, India and Eurasia will bring the Western half as it looks for new growth. Serbia needs to market itself as that bridge.
(Dan, 17 June 2010 14:43)

Absolutely. We can trade with the EU and the West but lets not turn our backs on the East where the balance of power is shifting. Serbia has great relations with the East and we need to strengthen them. Romania is our bridge and it can stubbornly face Westwards and dig itself into a grave or it can work with Serbia to give us the best opportunities on offer. Hopefully South Stream will be the first positive step.

This is correct. Thank you Romania, my next holiday is in Romania.

Do you actually believe in what you write?

Remind me, why were so many Romanians rioting recently? Does it have anything to do with all this economic help the EU is providing?

If you are looking for a feast, go and visit China. The tables are being set in Russia and India too. Those are the key nations to keep an eye on otherwise you can keep borrowing from your friends if you like - more debt helps reduce debt seems to be their way of helping.

When will Romania stop being so subservient and start looking after itself? Get on your own feet, see what's on offer and take advantage. Your loyalty to failing unions/axis is spread throughout your history. Time to wake up.

I dont understand the Albanian commentators at all. They dont seem to understand that Kosovo is forever in limbo. That they can never be an own country, never (need no further explaination) be a EU member, never be a UN member. Forever a black hole that most of the world considers a troubled spot.

Even if that was true they can still block your membership to EU, which makes them important.
Just think about that for a while.

Unfortunately their tourist web site in Somalia was a knock-off of a corresponding Polish website (notice the text!)

http://www.polish-club.org/aboutPoland/index.html

Looking at the pictures my wife decided, Somalia

http://data5.blog.de/media/631/3717631_d1bde1e241_l.jpeg

looks less attractive for her than Humor in Romania.

So I guess, that's it about my holiday in Somalia, even if it did recognize Kosovo.

When are you going to visit North Korea then so you can have a "blast" with monuments of comrade Kim?

I think your logic belongs in the "first grade". Move along three more countries, if your "first grade" logic allows and you may see a bigger picture. Yes, all three countries are connected so it's a bit like playing dot to dot.

Of course you'd prefer Serbia to move Westwards and have a properous ecomony like Bosnia, right?

(Dan, 17 June 2010 17:13)"

Sorry, I cannot find any port located in the black sea which is in the top 15 list of the biggest european ports (commercial importance, amount of containers shipped/arriving). The #1 is Amsterdam (NL), followed by Hamburg (D), Antwerpen (BE)...

Yes you are wrong Mister because it all started with Serbian posters I think it was Greece they all wanted to go on holidays after they said they will not recognize Kosovo.

Then it started with Albanian commentator Rocky taking a micky out of this whic I think was/is very funny.

...Romania accidentaly is in EU and as always the most unreliable EU members are always in minority in big decisions.

Dan

pre 13 godina

What would you rather do? Look for scraps and crumbs or join in the feast? Energy security and South Stream is a good start. The EU offers nothing but debt.
(Zoran, 17 June 2010 12:35)

Positioning Serbia to both east and west is the coup.
A strong entry in the East will make up for the competition on whats left in the West. A strong healthy relationship with Russia, China, India and Eurasia will bring the Western half as it looks for new growth. Serbia needs to market itself as that bridge.

Don't be sorry 1st grade can be overwhelming but I will help.
Now emphasis on the word largest, concentrate Top, then ask yourself again Serbia is seperated from the East by which countries?

Aleks

I wonder what makes Romanian administrations so resistant to blackmail, threats and promises from the west over recognition when the Bulgarian administration said it wouldn't but then quickly 'changed' its mind?
