I've heard of Goalie before but never Goaldtender. Another Americanism which your lot are polluting our Language with. Also the name is Football not this "soccer"; rename your own sports if you like but not our sports. According to FIFA, the official Organisation of the Sport the name is "Football". You know why, because it is a sport which features two main things, the use of a foot and the use of a ball, unlike your countries sport with a similar name. Go to Germany and the name of the sport is Fußball/ Fussball not "Das Soccer". Our sports are played all over the world. Go play your own sports which only you play cos then you'll have a chance of actually winning something like at American Rugby.

"Get over it."

I think that was kinda my point.

And BTW, I played SOCCER in high school when people here didn't know what it was. My whole point was this is an international event. Soccer is completely misunderstood in the US. Let's not make it worse. Let's improve the image! :)

Patrik hardly anti American to desire the existing language used to describe football.

Were you a real football fan, I believe you would agree with me, American or not. Is it so difficult for Americans to understand what a goalkeeper is? Or if an American commentator decides to invent a new word on a whim, should we automatically start using that too? Lets not bother with football or even soccer, surely we should change the name to soccerball!
Perhaps we should change the name of the world cup to the world series?

Oh, and as far as the vuvuzelas are concerned - the annoying drone is listening to those complaining about it. Its Africa, live with it.

In Mexico we have too many waves, in Brazil too many drums, in Italy too many 'little dictators' who spend more time facing their own fans to instruct them to sing than they do watch the match. In Spain too many Ole Ole Ole's. Get over it.

bganon, wtf?

"The shock of the night came when team USA was literally given the equalizer by England keeper Robert Green."

They use the term "keeper" as well. Why are you dissecting this so much? I'm pretty sure everyone else reading this understands what goaltender or goalie means. Not enough anti-American news today for you? This is a world event! You want to rant about something, rant about the bleeping horns at the games. Sounds like a friggin' beehive in a blender.

B92 can you please desist in using American to describe footballing words? Football is not an American sport.

Goaltender is not a word understood anywhere outside of the United States and possibly Canada.

Where does it stop? Americans might try to change perfectly good words used to describe situations in football that is understood in English, but that doesn't mean we have to use them here.

Next we will be using the word 'takedown' instead of tackle...

PROPER EMBARRASSING!

Especially as it was against the Yanks with their "soccer talk". It is football not Soccer!

Robert Green just handed them the equaliser. He blocked Clint Dempsey's shot, however he failed to pull the ball into his chest and stop the full momentum of the ball. It just carried on after he blocked the shot and it bounced into the net. Gerrard's goal was beautiful, it was the result of great team work and that is the reason why we're one of the best teams in the world. We can produce beautiful football results at times. However we keep making easy mistakes, I've never liked Heskey. He had a great opportunity to score, he was face on with the keeper and he just blasted it at him when he should have swept it round the side of him. Rooney, Defoe and Crouch would have done that, but Heskey didn't, plus he needs to learn how to stay onside. We need to give Crouch more playing time, he is sloppy and a bit clumsy however he scores goals, hes always upfront waiting to give it a shot. He is really tall and when is taking on the last defender his hight intimidates them and we need to work on this. Ronney is a great player, however the media has bigged him up too much. He isn't as good as they say. Crouch and Defoe are a great duo, they're a proven partnership and know the ins and outs of each other really well. They proved this at Portsmouth and at Spurs, now let them do it for England. It is not about having the best players it is about having the best team. England needs to capitalise on the opportunities we have. Some opportunities were just given to use on a plate and we just failed to convert them into goals. Lampard's free-kick was shocking, he needs to work on that. Overall last night England could have had a 3 or 4 nil victory over the US. The US are a really under-estimated team. Each tournament they get better and better. We need Algeria and Slovenia to draw now.

Good luck for Serbia later on, I'll be supporting them against Ghana. Serbia are another under-estimated team. They have lots of English Premier League players these days. I think Serbia will pull off a Croatia and go much further than everyone expects, like Croatia usually does. I have high hopes for Serbia. Germany will be the tough one in your group. Good luck Serbia!
