DimTuci,

that's called dreaming. Only "solution" would be we give you northern part of Kosovo for Presheva Valley & Medvegj; a simple land exchange.

To say that we'd give serbs a 4.9% minority dual federate status...bwahahahaha keep smoking that herb

Well said Diana and lets add to it the fact that Serbia's politicians haven't got the courage to tell the people the truth.Serbia will never join the EU without recognising Kosovo. The USA will never rescind its decision.Serbs are fools to think ICJ's decision will have any effect. It is a political ploy by Tadic to hang in there. He cannot seriously think the Albanians will go along with a pro-Serb ICJ decision( as if that will happen) and their American paymasters or that all those who have clout and recognised Kosovo eg UK Germany Turkey will rethink their positions. They will not.
Tadic can't negotiate with Kosovo Albanians who will refuse and then what ..More plane flights, flying to Jamaica and other states getting continued support of Serbia's position??
Tadic has lost kosovo a long time ago.The stupidity was the electoral address 'Yes to Kosovo Yes to the EU.'
He lied to the people or showed incredible naievity.
Meanwhile Serbs enjoy your holidays to Croatia as he's now suggesting..despite the exodus of 300000 people and the forgotten genocide of 7000000 Serbs from 1941-45.
Get real Serbs!! You need regime change and some home truths from your government.

Mike: “5 EU dissenters does not make consensus. And as long as they can remain in the EU and not recognize Kosovo's statehood, recognition shouldn't be a criteria for Belgrade.”

That is clearly true, regardless of one’s opinion.

People need to read the article more carefully. It says “We must, with time, find a solution that will please all 27 member-states, because a consensus is needed for this.”

The need for “consensus” between all 27 members – ie, both he 22 and the 5 – combined with the likelihood that the ICG will fudge the decision to please both sides, probably points to some kind of further negotiated change as necessary for both Serbia and Kosovo/a to join EU. It does not at all point to the conclusions of the UK ambassador.

But since there is simply no way K Albanians will ever compromise on independence (and you’d be blind to blame them), and since full partition along the Ibar does jack for the majority of Serbs living south of the Ibar, I believe the only solution can be a sharp upgrading of the Serb autonomy status under Atisaari into a federal unit, ie turning Kosovo/a into a completely independent Albanian/Serb federation, a solution Mike has often sensibly suggested (but seems to get little feedback from nationalists on any side).

The EU's 'rule of law' mantra has been publically shredded. Member states have played fast and loose with the rules for years and now the sh*t has hit the fan, many of them have been found with their trousers around their ankles.

They all lied, Paris, London, Berlin. There were no real rules apart from soft cozy golf club rules.

Regardless of the ICJ decision, it still has nothing to do with implementation of the acquis communautiare which is why Brussels has been harping on recently about 'good neighborly relations', a 'soft' or a 'subjective' issue.

On the other hand, Brussels tolerates the continued widspread discrimination of minorities not only in Kosovo but in EU member states, major ones such as Germany deporting all the roma 'back' to Kosovo because they say it is safe despite the kosovo albanians universally describing them as being no different from the Serbs.

If belgrade accepts a new dictum from Brussels over Kosovo, then they are de facto accepting their status as second class citizens and the right of Brussels to discriminate against them.

Belgrade doesn't need Brussels, but Brussels need Serbia. If Brussels wants to punish Serbia, then they are punishing the rest of the Balkans, i.e. the economic recovery in the region will suffer etc. Fortunately Belgrade has been actively strengthening its political and economic relations with the former non-aligned states and BRICS meaning it is and will be less vulnerable to EU/US economic blackmail.

Of course Serbian integration to EU and recognition of Kosovo's independence are NOT to separate issues. Only a politically blinded person cant see that. Does anyone really think that EU will allow another Cyprus in its ranks? Does anyone really think that Serbia will be allowed in EU to block Kosovo to enter? Serbia might have been upset with the British ambassador statement but Serbia is always upset with THE TRUTH.

highduke,

The US judge's resignation goes into effect after the decision is given at the ICJ. This could be interpreted as the US judge has done his job i.e. his vote is for independence. It certainly does not look good for Serbia.

Why don't you just tell the EU to get lost Tadic? Why anyone would want to join this bullying, undemocratic organization is beyond me. They promise everything and give very little to ordinary people, I doubt you'll be better off, they'll take your assets (the ones they haven't bombed) and use you for cannon fodder in IRAQ. They'll want Serbia in because without you there is an independent state in the middle of europe they can't control. If the nationalists get to power, or Serbia decides it doesn't want join, they'll be panicking and trying to fast track you. Serbia should consider who their real friends are and who they can do business with and who would destroy them.

"He repeated the stance of EU Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fuele that Kosovo and EU integration are two different issues, but reminded that the EU functions according to the principle of consensus."

It would be a fairer comment to say that the 22 EU member-states that have recognized Kosovo’s "illegal" independence are butting heads with international law!

highduke

Well, with the recent decision of the US judge to resign from ICJ, it's safe to say the court will rule against the legality of the Albanian temporary institutions proclamation. KiM will enter EU only as a part of Serbia and IF Serbia decides.
