"I think tht you have never been in Kosova/o. If you have visited Kosova before 1999 and after 2005, it is a huge difference, and I mean for better.
The comparison between Kosova/o of 1980 and 2010, is like visiting Somalia with Switzerland. If you know what I mean!?

"Kosova" as the Switzerland of the Balkans???? Please!!!

How many people here have actually been to Albanian parts of Kosovo? It is horrible there. It is dirty, with decaying buildings, infrastructure, visible poverty everywhere, beggars, and a feeling of lawlessness.

Are we in the same parts?

How many people here have actually been to Albanian parts of Kosovo? It is horrible there. It is dirty, with decaying buildings, infrastructure, visible poverty everywhere, beggars, and a feeling of lawlessness. Obviously, hte NATO assessment that Kosovo is stable, is just a "Lie in your face" statement, in order to free up troops for more important military endeavors. The situation in Kosovo will never be stable, until a mutually agreed status solution is inked between Belgrade and Pristina. Kosova will remain bleak until this is done, though I dought anytime soon, and all the PR BS by Rassmussen will not change anything.

Rassmussen is a fool to think the security situation will be good if more NATO troops are removed. It will actually have the opposite effect, as the Albaniaks will feel more free to persecute minorities with less NATO troops patrolling. They (NATO) will throw those reduced troops back in KiM faster than you can say "Kosovo is Serbia". This is all about the need for more troops in Afghanistan, not about the wishful thinking that some kind of peace has developed in KiM.

"One thing is that some people on this site do not understand. KFOR will reduce its troops, but NATO troops from ;USA,Italy, Germany,French and Turkish will remain here as part of NATO, and not KFOR."

Be sure they all (well, maybe except the US troops, but I wouldn't be even sure about that) will gladly and immediately return home as soon as they are not needed any more to keep peace and order in the independent dream state of Kosovo - though this day might be far away, but that's the goal.

KFOR was assured by Serbian generals last week in prishtina that they would jump on any problem with albanians..And with Ruskies in Nis,it`s safe to say who needs NATO.
After all afghanistan is looking like dante`s inferno and they are badly needed there.

" kosovo security forces and kosovo police should be given competences on security so that they can keep law and order in the rest of kosovo."
(Naim, 11 June 2010 11:59)

It's not a problem of "given competences", but of being competent and willing to do the job. Obviously, KPS is still not able to arrest citizens who are running away from appearing in front of the court, to protect harassed citizens, to protect endangered ancient cultural historical buildings, to investigate in corruption cases, and so on and so on.

And that's why KFOR is still needed - especially in the southern parts of the independent, multiethnic dream state. What kind of a professional police is it where dozens of kgs of seized drugs can be stolen from the police headquarter?

Investment for US,Italy(village italia),German and French bases was done so they can be here for eternity. It works for Kosovars, so they don't have to spend to much money for military purposes.

the number should be dropped to 2000 that's enough to control the north, we don't need anywhere else. let the north deal with 1244 as they want. kosovo security forces and kosovo police should be given competences on security so that they can keep law and order in the rest of kosovo.

You know you're in trouble when the same allies who fought for your independence are leaving long before that independence has become a reality.
