Turkey sides with Macedonia in name dispute

=======================

Wow, what a surprise!
Did anyone think that they would side with Greece?

Skiff

pre 14 godina

Well, that was a bit strong :).

I doubt Turkey will dissolve any time soon, if ever. Erdogan though, needs a kick in the a-- ... electorally speaking.
(Ment, 3 June 2010 19:11)

I know, it's a wishful thinking only - but what can I say about a country which brought so much tragedy?
Weren't Turkey, no Kosovo problem would exist to begin with.

And as for Chief Mullah Erdogan being kicked under his tunica - that would probably mean (as usual) an other military junta. In recent history Turkey was ruled by either some mullah-style guy or by a fascist, but secular junta.

Their people deserve really somewhat better.
(Ataman, 4 June 2010 11:20)

Now that i think of it, if it werent for turkey maybe all of Albanians would have been absorbed by the south slavs and greeks just like most of Illyrians were assimilated.

Hasn't Turkey caused enough trouble in the Balkans already? What are they still meddling in its affairs for?

Anyway, since when is the opinion of a middle eastern country important in European affairs?

I'm' absolutely sure that Constantinople was the epicenter of Christianity...FEZ.

Well then, if you have a problem with Greece, then Russia, Bulgaria, Serbia, Romania, Georgia, Armanian, will relieve you of this Orthodox jewel you stole.

Continued Example of Ottoman Theft: Hagia Sophia (from the Greek: Ἁγία Σοφία, "Holy Wisdom"; Latin: Sancta Sophia or Sancta Sapientia) is a former Orthodox patriarchal basilica. Sorry,it's not a mosque..it's an ORHTHODOX Church and Ottoman Turks didn't build it, nor can they take the credit for Constantinople.

Let's throw this in for good measure:

Campaign to restore to use as a church:

In 2007 the US businessman and politician Chris Spirou started the movement "Free Hagia Sophia Council" championing the cause of restoring the building to its original function.[20] On 20 June 2007 Spirou testified before the Congressional Human Rights Caucus of the United States Congress; at the end of the Public Hearing, Chairman Tom Lantos, (D-CA), Chairman of the Congressional Human Rights Caucus and Chairman of the green Committee on Foreign Affairs of the United States Congress, stated among other things: "Of all the Human Rights violations around the world that the Congressional Human Rights Caucus has examined in the 25 years of its existence, the most important have been violations relating to Religious Freedom. The Caucus has paid particular attention and concern to human rights violations which deal with forced conversions of Holy Places and Holy Sites. The situation with Agia Sophia ranks amongst the most important issues to have come before our Caucus."

u sure about that?
Constantinople was founded by the Roman emperor Constantine I. Constantine was från Naissus (modern Nis) an Illyrian. How can it be GREECE?

Greece claims that the name Macedonia refers to the ancient northern Greek province.

So what?Slavo Macedonians and Serbs are both invaders in the balkans.Since the Greeks agree that the Serbs are right to claim land that was never theirs why can't slavo-macedonians claim a name?

I wasn't actually wishing anything... I don't like the way Turkey is heading.

The comparison with Russia was simply to highlight a crude bully attitude towards neighbors.

As far as Russia goes, don't confuse respect with fear.

If FYROM has supporters like Turkey who needs enemies then... only this "support" can prove how "rightful" FYROM is, to claim a name, a culture, a history and a legacy it has absolutely nothing to do with....

Macedonia is one and is Greek. FYROM is still one, but it has absolutely nothing to do with macedonia....

That's the dark meat of the bird that needs to be returned by the Ottoman Invaders!

Fully agree. This is a matter of shorter time than anyone would expect.I have no doubt than very soon I with my friends will watch Greek super League match in Constantinapole. How nice it will be to support Olympiakos when they play Constantinapole Lions in currently built Galataseray stadium.(since turks inherited Hagia Sophia it is not a sin to inherit some of their newly built stadiums.)Anyway the current row beetwen turks of jewish and of muslim religion can accalarate this process.LOng live the great people of Hellas.

It seems Turkey, under Erdogan, is starting to look more like Russia in its relations with the neighbors.
(Ment, 3 June 2010 17:02)

Wishfull thinking. The truth is that Russia as a member of the Security council,a nuclear power and an energy hub commands the respect of the rest of the world.Turkey doesn't.

What Turkey has achieved under Erdogan is to increase its islamisation process which is evident in every aspect of public life.

Ahmed Davutoglu-turkey's foreign minister-has always pursued a policy of Ottomanisation. That is trying to ressurect Turkey's influence in the immediate area and the Balkans in particular. Will such policy succeed?.Well Davutoglou is daydreaming.

Now that's a recipe for compromise between Macedonia and Greece!

Turkey is an unfinished business. It will be finished when only a tiny Ankara Pashalik remains from it. Kurds, Armenians, Greeks, Syrians, Bulgarians, Georgians have to get the slices of that bird.

Turkey was and still is the tragedy of Balkans.
