"I have my suspicions about the contents of these dairies. I smell western propaganda to discredit Mladic in the eyes of Serbs by claiming he was associated with criminals."

Mladic discredited himself a long time ago. Unbelievable that there are still Serbs who think he is an honourable man or even a hero.

I have my suspicions about the contents of these dairies. I smell western propaganda to discredit Mladic in the eyes of Serbs by claiming he was associated with criminals.
It’s an old trick. Remember what was said about Libya’s leader Gadaffi during the last 30 years – he is mad, a monster and so on. Now he is the west’s best friend, ha, ha, ha.
More BS brought to you by the west.

Indeed, why would such personalities be featured in Mladic's diary?

Probably for the same reason that Plavsic once posed with Arkan, if I remember correctly.

This would be like John Gotti (former head of a notorious NYC crime family) getting a photo op with Bill Clinton.

I don't think we should find these links surprising. Normal, everyday soldiers probably wouldn't possess the instincts to carry out the type of operations of which people like Arkan were/are accused.

And wasn't Milosevic quoted somewhere of having said to Hrvoje Sarinic or some such person that he had hired guys like Arkan to do his "dirty work" in Bosnia and Croatia? Anyway, take that for what it's worth.

This crossover between the Serbian mafia and the Bosnian Serb wartime elite does not make the latter come out in any positive light.

What on earth was Mladic doing writing about this? Why would he know about it?

It makes one wonder about the murky role of state security and its position in linking up the two.

And when you think about it, its no wonder a number of mafia bosses such as Arkan and Legija believed they were untouchable.
