It alright, Homosexual and Hungarian alright too but not so much liking Serbs. Go Ataman and Roberto!

LOL, with three kids that non-homosexuality did cost me a lot of money. Besides, so much time spent chasing girls - and so far got only one. Not very productive.

As Homosexual and Jew
(Arsim, 3 June 2010 12:30)

I did not know the first part. Well, being a Jew is not always easy - but to be a homosexual Jew is really a challenge.

Not affected by the first - I really like to forget the second part of the ordeal. This is why I love Serbia that much: I don't need to get into defense ever. Serbs usually let me be whatever I like and the case is closed. This applied so far to everyone: from MUP officer or a villager to a nun or to an engineer.

Arsim: "Roberto you come to Kosova, you get no guilt or pesrecution! As Homosexual and Jew who love Albanians you set tolerance example for whole balkan."

I applaud your tolerance but it is just not true. Gay men have sought asylum from Kosovo because they feared for their lives. And the KLA terrorised the Jewish community in Kosovo during the 'war'.

Personally I think people should be free to love whom they wish, and all individuals should enjoy equal human and legal rights.

Having a march to raise awareness or to demand these rights is one thing; but blatant group displays of sexuality is another, and I have to admit that I would not like this on show either, whether heterosexual or homosexual.

As far as I am concerned, people should be free to express affection in public as they please, within reason. They certainly shouldn't feel endangered because they wish to hug, kiss or hold hands with the person they love.

This is about human rights, and the gay community may be getting very frustrated about opinions towards them, but trying to force their views will just backfire.

The best thing is when well-liked people in the public eye are openly gay but don't make a huge issue out of it, which makes the public respect them and realise they they are just the same as everyone else.

Oh, bellissima, Danilo! Brilliant analysis.

I have one also:

1) We have the people who are brought up according to certain norms, values and virtues and taught to adhere to your traditions and culture as as been in your nation's society for centuries and that something like homosexuals celebrating/parading their sexuality/orientation as if it is some great achievment to be proud of can be considered awkward, unnecessary and above all, provocative.

2) We have the "You're so racist!", "You're so ignorant!", "You're so homophobic!" types brought up on MTV, Reality Shows and Holywood movies.

What do you think?

This debate reduced to the basics:

On one side you have "Gay people have human rights, like any other person. They have the right to free association and, as an individual right, should be able to marry whomever they chose. They have a right to express their concerns publicly, as does any individual or group."

On the other side, you have "eeew"

Exactly, both of you make good points. It's not issue of them being gay that's the problem, I don't have anything against gays, but watching them do it in public celebrating it and sometimes in the most shameless way is simply despicable and the only negative repurcussions that might come from it will actually hit them hardest.

It is almost like a purposeful provocation to native peoples of countries where culture, tradition, older norms, morals and values are still considered important and civilized, which is what comes to my mind as civilized anyway, rather than two men barely dressed kissing each other in public (which from what I gather is what roberto considers as civilized when he discusses the "civilized world"). Perhaps they would get more acceptance as members of society in certain countries if they didn't flaunt it and dangle it in front of our faces, as they want to do now with their ridiculous parades?

This is one reason I don't want Serbia to join the EU. I watched a gay parade in Stockholm last year and in the middle of the day they were practically naked, kissing and fondling eachother. I do not want my children to see that kind of behaviour. If they kept it private it would be ok. But they want to show they whole world their naked bodies and their behaviour. I hope this parade will never take place.

obviously some people are utterly ignorant of the life experiences of lgbt persons, esp.ly in areas like the balkans, which have typically been filled with shame, persecution, guilt, discrimination, and misery.

at least in the past.

so finally things are beginning to change. lgbt people over there are constantly exposed to life and attitudes in the west (us, w europe) and start thinking to themselves: why the he-- do we have to live this way, when a little ways away there is quite another story... of course, when possible some of them just leave for the west, at least for short vacations. but why should they have to? why should they have to leave their own homes to experience some freedom, some normal kind of life?

lgbt people, esp.ly younger ones, have really lost patience with all of these bad old ways, and i do not blame them one bit. they are citizens, they have to work as hard (or harder) than anyone, pay taxes, have all of the other responsibilities... but suddenly when it comes to equal rights, there is always this nasty reaction: why THEM again -- why should THose people have "special" rights?

the rights are not special -- the rights are standard, the rights are for ALL citizens. that is our world now, if you want yr country, fill in the blank, to join the civilized world.

i hope that the lgbt activists in serbia will be strong and centered in their plans and actions, and demand that politicians follow thru on their responsibilities to all protect human rights.

make as many good alliances as possible, and go for it! good luck.

thank you.

Why do these gay parades get so much exposure in the media? I really wish someone would explain to me how it is that just because these people prefer their own sex, that they should celebrate it with huge public parades.

Is it really something that one should be so proud of that one would have to flaunt it in public? It's not like they have achieved anything by it, or anything.
(Peter Sudyka, 2 June 2010, 12:50

I agree with you Peter.There
seems to be an attempt by either the media or the politicians to force the issue of gay rights on the daily agenda.

I personally don't have a problem with gay rights but its continuous exposure in the Balkan and Caucasus regions seems to be provocative since it's well known that the majority of the populations in those countries do no hold such liberal views as far as homosexuality is concerned.

Gay parades highlighting sexual preferences in public is an over-saturated practice
which could only backfire on the gay community.
