This is all for show. The Albanians have no money to repay the loan, but the US is so desperate to show the locals and world that there is progress that it has organized this charade. After 12 years of so called independence nothing has changed and they are desperate to “show progress” and thus keep the current lot of thieves in power that they bankrolled this loan.
To the US taxpayer; you will have to pay this back. Just throw it on the gigantic pile with the other 20 or so trillion that you have to repay.

If you think Kosovo has the means to pay that money back you're dreaming in technicolor. That money is gone forever my friend, evaporated. More money well spent by the EU, on their way to bankruptcy.
Cheers!!

The paradox point is that "Kosovo is going to be the only borrower from IMF that doesn't fear to loose it's national sovereignty by borrowing from IMF. "
The Greek

A paradox point indeed, when it comes from a Greek. Please, lesson us on how to borrow without fear.

Good news! IWF loans are much better than billions of donor money coming from other states! The IWF has much stronger criteria for granting a loan - it's always connected with strict budget control obligations.

"The negotiations with IMF were not simply done to be able to receive this grant, but to open the way for other grants/loans that were promised to Kosovo at the Donor’s Conference ( [link]) in an amount of more than 1.2 bn €.
(pz, 28 May 2010 13:45) "

that donor conference was 2 years ago, before the euro meltdown. And you still expect the EU to be able to afford to honor all their pledges? Talk about naivette!

The Greek, If what you say is really applicable then guess which ‘country’ is truly without any sovereignty. Further, Greeks should be the least to say anything when it comes to financial issues.

Loan or Donation?

Also s.t you are right, kosovo rebels should be loaning money to other poorer countries because Kosovos GDP is $50000 and not $5.

Kosovo did not need any loan at a time but borroved the money to show the world that is a equal member of IMF.

s.t., Kosovo needed the loan otherwise they would not have taken it out. The loan also came with conditions so if Kosovo did not need the loan, why did they have to agree to budget modifications? I'm glad to see a loan given to Kosovo instead of a handout. My tax dollars won't be lost since Kosovo will have to pay me back!

What a ridiculous comment. If this was for infrastructure I could understand but it's probably going to end up mainly in the pockets of corrupt "politicians". The journey to bankruptcy has started.

Whatever! Up until now you were on Western wellfare. Now, they are tired of giving out money for free so you have to borrow like everyone else. Even America has debts over its ears but little tiny Kosovo with no industry, no infrastructure and no other way of making money can stand on its own feet. Who do you think you are fooling?

The Greek

Really? Quite an expensive way to show that your are "equal member", don't you think so?

The paradox point is that Kosovo is going to be the only borrower from IMF that doesn't fear to loose it's national sovereignty by borrowing from IMF. Because it already doesn't have any of that.... as national sovereignty only belongs to proper countries.

Yes, Kosovo is now so rich that it can afford to throw away money (read interest payments for the loan) to make a political point. Or are you expecting Uncle Sam to pick up the interest payments tab for you?
