Here is the latest information on the Croatian army from HTV itself as part of army day celebrations so don’t say this a Serb conspiracy. The professional number, hold onto your hats boys and girls, is 600, yes it’s not a mistake on my part it’s only 600 and 400 are in Afghanistan.
I watched the parade and display of equipment. Well 95% was “old Yugoslav” military hardware with a lick of paint plus Humvie or two. A Mig 21 flew over plus 6 trainers and that was it folks. The reporter also said that Croatian forces were suffering with a reduced budget on last year to the tune of “800 million Kuna”. So I ask the question, what can the Serbian army learn from this lot?

Professional army means one that has been trained and supplied by the US to some degree.

Problem is that a 'professional' army that is untested is only that on paper.

As pointed out, it takes more than attacking handfulls of porrly equipped retreating soldiers and firing on thousands of civilians in columns to prove that an army is 'professional'.

Still, I'm sure that Afganistan will give an opportunity for many Croatians to enjoy 'professionalism'...

Now just refresh my memory, which battles has the Croatian army won that makes it a superior fighting force again? Please not Operation Storm – even the US would be ashamed to mention that one – where they killed defenceless old men, women and children.

Or even better under which superior strategic initiative did the Croatian defence department closed 95% of all its military bases over the 2009/2010 winter period. Gee that’s a new tactic.

Professional army, my….. The Croats only adopted the US military system and Gee hasn’t that worked in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The only benefit to joining NATO is the purchase of so called “superior” equipment from the US. The benefit is to the US because it sells its crappy stuff to a ready made market with no alternative to buy anything else and Gee hasn’t that equipment stood up to the test in war.

No thanks I’d rather keep the old Serbian 1960s stuff than buy rubbish from the US. Ask the Australian Government what a great deal they got for buying second hand Abrams tanks. They paid as if they were new then spent a heap on updating them then they have spent even more reconfiguring their amphibious equipment to transport them.

Lenard,

Absolutely! Croatia has the best military on the planet. The Russians, Americans, Germans envy Croatia and don't even come close.

Then you woke up!

"Croatia has professionalized its army, it has been a member of Partnership for Peace for a while now, it has joined the NATO and it participates in a large number of peace-keeping missions, which is the future of the Serbian Army as well," Šutanovac underscored. That is nuts Croatian army training the Serbian army. Serbian equipment is old 1960 to 1970 with communist doctrine in its ranks it must be April 1st all over again. Maybe the Croatian Army will teach the Serbian army good Croatian army fighting songs thats very plausible. If you have to learn from the best Croatian army on UN missions.

Sutanovac and Tadic should not fool themselves... do not act against the will of the poeple.

Actually , they are not fooling themselvs, rather they are fooling Serbian nation in general, especially about Kosova/o.

Its time for Tadic to slap down Sutanovac for his constant, slavish pro NATO-ism.

Sutanovac believes that Serbia should join NATO, but the rest of Serbia does not. I'm sure that certain departments of the defence ministry are given access to NATO projects / funds, so there is an element of thanks in Sutanovac's statements, but these statements that Serbia is to join NATO are undemocratic and wrong.

In future Sutanovac must be told that if he must express an opinion it should be clear this is his private opinion and not that of the government of Serbia or the Serbian people.

wouldn´t want to see Serbia in NATO.

that would be a shame. ...and the majority in Serbia is against that, Sutanovac and Tadic should not fool themselves... do not act against the will of the poeple.
