Would be great if they would develop markets overseas more, by sending trade missions and establishing better liason between the diaspora. Devloping better standards and building upon the Agro industry - huge market here - untapped. A few deli's carry some products ie. water, chocolate, canned and bottled goods etc. With some proper vision, some textile and shoes could easily make there way to US/Canada etc. Example. Sweaters from Vranje, Textiles from Novi Pazar or Novi Sad, /Agro from Subotica...Pollino shoes for children - great product - not marketed properly. Could be huge here with a bit of vision. I could ramble on about other products, but I've already mentioned whats needed. Vision, clarity and a better marketing umbrella with people who can work in a larger picture. The future of Serbia as an export driven country could be amazing, provided that people are driven with a vision not blinded by individual greed.

Yes. The biggies in Bruxelles, Berlin and Paris will however not recognize this need for a while and plolong the current crisis.

Aha, yes - I like of course the convenient idea of common currency as long as the participating countries have roughly the same weight. If they have a common history - even if it is full of hostilities (like Germany versus France) than it's even better.

But Germany and soon-to-be-Euro Estonia in the same club sounds bizarre. In particular that Estonia has less potential than Slovakia or Hungary and it's one of the countries where the artificial 1 USD = 0.6 Rbl Soviet exchange rate was upheld at any price, just the currency was re-named.

If not the insane amount of CHF and EUR borrowed in mortgages we should have 1 USD = 500 HUF or even worse. These borrowed CHF and EUR is one thing what is killing the country.

Yes, but fact is that Serbia and the Serbian government have severely damaged Serbia's export and export ability to bad privatizations - privatizations in which the new owners sold the company piece by piece and ended up with empty warehouses to rent out instead of production.

The Serbian government should have fully cracked down and pressed criminal charges against those who did not live up to their documented contracted obligations they agreed to when buying out the companies.

Serbia also needs to provide for its own domestic consumption (where it can) instead of importing so much because it has a bad trade imbalance.

An other disaster is Euro itself. There should be several currencies based on economy power and status, not one.

Ataman,

I'm not sure how old you are, but you don't seem to know that the "Euro" is a composite currency representing the 27 different countries that make up the EU. Or, are you suggesting that the Euro be abandoned and each of the 27 countries composing the EU revert back to their own individual countries' currencies? Bad idea for sure!

Many economists believe that the demise of the Euro block, in its current form is imminent. It was a mistake from day one. The all for one and one for all theory is quite romantic in literature, but for multi-nation monetary policy is has proven to be a disaster. The EU will lumber along in their feeble attempt to hold this monetary project together, all the while knowing it will have to collapse. Political pride is a bitch, and acknowledging you were wrong is almost impossible for politicians and governments. Look at the west's projects in the Balkans, i.e., Bosnia and Kosovo, instead of saying we made mistakes, they lumber along throwing good money after bad money to keep their pride in tact.

Serbia should not repeat Hungarian scenario when "export-oriented" policy is done at any cost.

For instance if in order to make goods worth 100 Euro and export them you need 80 Euro import - than forget it. Hungary often does even more bizarre thing, i.e. importing somewhat for 120 Euro in order to export a product based on that import for 100 Euro.

That is called disaster.

An other disaster is Euro itself. There should be several currencies based on economy power and status, not one.

Serbia needs to develop DOMESTIC CAPITAL bc EU members that rely on foreign investment create an illusion of prosperity but the money dries up quickly when a recession hits bc there's even less taxable revenue and you get a Greek Scenario which will repeat itself in the West when higher taxes to cover costs associated with a rapidly aging population bankrupt the state & citizens. Think in terms of decades not years. 4 GET EU
