No clear winner in UK election

Britain is facing an uncertain future today after – as predicted – its general election failed to return an outright winner.

"supporter(s) of Irak WMD fake existence and numerous other lies would certainly please me!
(The Swiss, 8 May 2010 00:35) "

Torries would have done the same if not worse!

Lib-Dems were the only mainstream party which opposed the Iraq war. Now the Lib-Dems are the King-makers!

Come on Clegg!

If Labour chooses to remain in power, they're finished in the next election which will be in less than 18 months time.

Sadly, they need to concede to the Tories, find a new leader and prepare for the next election.

I am outraged by this and would like to know why this election is not deemed illegal when it would be in other countries.

You are right Kate, I looked at the election until 3 am and simply couldn't believe my eyes and ears while discovering the incredible mess that was happening at too many poling stations.
Worst, as you truly pointed out, is that in most of the countries watched by the OSCE, the election would have been considered as... (choose the appropriate terms).
As to the election itself, I do not have any particular preferences, apart from the fact that to see the departure of the
supporter(s) of Irak WMD fake existence and numerous other lies would certainly please me!

Gordon Brown is till going to be PM until a coalition is sorted out and the Lib-Dems have all the playing cards. I'd hate to see the Lib-Dems join up with the Torries. I would love though to see a coalition between Labour, Lib-Dems, SD&L, Plaid, SNP, Green etc. Just anything to keep the torries out of power.

The Torries can only form a minority government if Gordon Brown reigns, which he won't do.

I think a Hung Parliament is the best possible outcome, it is time to reform British politics.

hey Scotland! Now could be an opportune moment to bolt the union and be your own boss for the first time in centuries!

Having won just one seat out of 60 in Scotland the Tories think they have the moral authority to rule over Scotland.

The were also roundly rejected in Northern Ireland and Wales. Britain did not vote in majority for them, just England.

not quite true.

The conservatives can form a government on their own, having more seats than any other party.

The question is whether they can keep the confidence of the House. This will require support of individual MPs on confidence votes, such as money bills.

Since, however, Labour are the incumbants, they have first chance to prove that they might have the confidence of the house, if they make a quick deal with the Libs.

The entire system needs to be changed to proportional representation. The current system is very unfair and outdated.

I am sorry to repeat myself, but as this is the current thread on this subject... there is a very important story that shouldn't be overlooked.

Thousands of people were unable to vote in this election, either because the doors shut early due to polling stations not being able to process votes quickly enough, or in some cases because there were not enough ballot papers available. There were even hundreds of lost postal votes. [ [link] ].

People went to their polling stations before the closing time of 10pm and weren't allowed in. The doors were shut on them, and if they staged any sort of protest the police were called.

In any other country, if there were EU monitors, the election would be declared illegal. The fact that people queued for hours and were not allowed to vote is an absolute scandal, and all they have got is various apologies from the local returning officers.

Now they are being told that they may be able to sue for a few hundred pounds, which should not buy their silence onthe matter. They are entitled to vote, and they should have a re-vote in all constituencies where this happened.

I am outraged by this and would like to know why this election is not deemed illegal when it would be in other countries.
