Hey Jeremic there will be no Umnik there. Just Kosova authorities. Today like this next time with name tags and than with flags.. LOL I wonder if Europe needed Serbia so much why did they insist that kosova be there too?

Notice everyone stops talking when the word "gay" is mentioned. Good to see the Kosovo Albanians and Serbians can agree on something.

Kate, Roberto has never condemned any crimes agains the Serbs for one reason only, his bias.

Now only people who are personally connected have such a strong bias. You can have strong opinion on what you see as an injustice but that goes to all if you are not personally involved.
Why do you think Roberto has never felt sorry for the Serbs? He has personal attachment to one side and that side is Muslim side, whether it be Bosnian Muslims or Albanains.

Secondly are you talking about the tolerance that Serbs have shown towards Gay Serbs?
I have seen the worldwide headlines about Serb "tolerance" where Gays have been beaten barbarically in the middle of downtown Belgrade.
Kind regards.

======================

There are still areas in Melbourne where gays won't go into.
We've had many gay bashings in this city as well.

I personally think it's wrong and anyone doing this should be thrown in jail but Serbia is not the only country where this happens.

Do you think this is tolerated in Albania or other places in Eastern Europe?

What's your point then?

labuda

pre 13 godina

@Fluid I think you are wrong here bud. It's you Kosovo Albanians that can't stand Serbs. We don't go around demolishing everything Albanian in the south. That's because we don't care. Every Serb knows that Kosovo Albanians are a fad that will eventually be replaced with another, like all fads, once the US & an' a throws in the towel. Then what? The US won't give a crap about the failed social science project: 'Kosovah'.

branka

pre 13 godina

@cees You baffle me. The west decided that Serbia should accept the responsibility of the "crimes" committed by Bosnian Serbs because the Bosnian Serbs refused to do so themselves. Are you aware of the fact that Serbs didn't fight in Bosnia and Croatia? But Bosnian & Croatian Serbs. The declaration was tasked to encourage every country from the former Yugoslavia to do the same - express their own guilty past. It is the Bosnian and Croatian Serbs that should be requesting this exact policy and not Belgrade. As for gays, why is this such an issue? If the people of Serbia don't wish to have a gay pride parade then their wish should be respected. If gay people wish to be treated as any other citizen, then why have an extraordinary parade plastering raw sexuality all over the place for the kids to see. If that's normal then where is our straight parade?

john

pre 13 godina

This might come as a surprise to some but their are more pressing matters that need addressing in Serbia than bending to the will of the west. Gays are tolerated enough in Serbia, it's the gay parade that Serbs want no part in. The people spoke and the authorities went ahead as planned to appease their western masters. What did you expect would happen!? Just look at Israel, same thing happened their and they're a long-time western ally.

“Also, I do wonder if you realise that your liberal stance and lifestyle would be tolerated by very few in Pristina.

For example, are you aware that people have claimed asylum because their very lives are endangered by being gay and Kosovo Albanian?”

I think Kate that you have pointed on an important issue. I lived one year in Kosovo and could talk to people from the gay community in Pristina. As in the whole of the Balkans they have a difficult stance in the society, though they are protected by the most modern laws in Europe. In this case I see no difference with the other countries. In Serbia an open threat against gay-people also exists, as the last discussions around the street-parade have shown and homophobia is not a stranger in the country .
I don’t know if you were ever in Pristina where life and having party is not much different from Belgrade. You won’t have a problem to live “a liberal stance and lifestyle” like in most of the cities in Kosovo . Different it will be in rural areas, but that is a phenomenon you’ll find everywhere on the world.
I admit that I have a problem with being balanced about war crimes. I am just reading the book: “Stripping Bare the Body”, Politics – Violence – War by Mark Danner, who was e.g. journalist for the New Yorker and Times Magazine. In the part of the “Saddest Story” he describes the ways on which the war in Bosnia developed. He tells about his meetings with Karadzic and Mladic, about developing political backgrounds in USA, France, Germany, Serbia and Pale, but most of all about the terrible fates of innocent people. Behind these war crimes you’ll find the few, who were instigating, acting or just waiting, watching and doing nothing. History will show the truth, and I don’t mean the history, as it is written by Croats, Slovenes, Serbs or Kosovars. For a long time Russia has pointed to the Germans as the murders of thousands of Polish officers until they opened the documents that showed a different story. I hope that one day the Serbian government will open their documents, if they still exist, about the decisions the Milosevic’ government has made during the nineties. For now with me, even if only ten percent is true what Mark Danner describes in his book, I have troubles to be balanced. I only see how the Serbian people tries, by adopting a plea for acknowledging the atrocities against the Serbian population – that happened also after the war in Kosovo -, as a fighter who tried to exterminate his opponent and asked from the almost killed person to make his excuse that he punched back and hurt him too.

Roberto - I applaud you for having a strong stance and not being Albanian yourself. I can relate to that.

But I have never heard you say anything vaguely balanced about war crimes. All of us know that terrible atrocities have been carried out in Kosovo by people of all ethnicities, and yet I have never heard you say even once that Kosovo Albanians have done terrible things to Serbians, especially since the 'liberation'.

The KLA also carried out terrible crimes against 'disloyal' Albanians or those considered to have helped their Serbian neighbours.

If you have a strong stance from the outside then why do you not feel for the suffering of the Serbian communities there, or the millions of totally innocent people who suffered under the months of bombing?

Also, I do wonder if you realise that your liberal stance and lifestyle would be tolerated by very few in Pristina.

For example, are you aware that people have claimed asylum because their very lives are endangered by being gay and Kosovo Albanian?

I am genuinely interested in how you tie this all together with your support.

If that were the case, then why would they be publishing your comment? In every other news site your comment would never have been published and the moderators would be far more editorially biased in what they allow through.

This is the most open news site discussion board that I have come across. I congratulate B92 for being so liberal in the comments that they publish, and I am sure that the moderators must sometimes be driven to the verge of a nervous breakdown :)

Johny - Point me to any other site which would publish such a comment as your's or be so open?

Plus, I hate to blow your conspiracy theory, but most of the English speakers on here are people like me, from whichever country, who just feel very strongly about one/ both of two things:

- That Serbia and most Serbians have suffered a major injustice for a very long time. Firstly under Milosevic and for many many years from the 'international community'.
There are devils and angels in all societies; we are all the same and want the same things. When I see a whole nation being demonised I know that something is very wrong and I am being lied to.

- The issue of Kosovo also directly affects every European and those beyond on a law and security basis, because if a single ethnic group are allowed to annex land and a state's boundaries are not protected by international law, then the fall-out will be enormous for all of us.

bganon

pre 14 godina

johny on the one hand B92 is accused of being controlled by the nationalist Serbian government and on the other it is accused of being controlled by George Soros and foreign interests.

Both views are remarkably short sighted. This media outlet like any other, has pressure to deal with from outside sources, but for the most part does a very good job in resisting interference in its editorial policy.

On balance the 'bias' expressed by B92 is one created / shared by the journalists who work for it.

So perhaps you should not see ghosts under the bed, where there are none.

As for the 'liberal' view that Serbia has no right to a foreign policy. I beg to differ. It has every right to persue all legal means to achieve its goals, just as any other country. Its sad that Belgrade has to play an obstructionist role in this moment in time on the Kosovo issue, but this wasn't a problem created by the current government.

Pete, lets just say that B92 has become the mouthpiece of the propaganda machinery of the spin doctors in Belgrade. Lets just be open and also say that there's too many untruths and too much propaganda from the Serb camp that write here on the daily basis. We're here to counter some of that. This has nothing to do with obsession; if it did we would have English propaganda machineries coming from Prishtina. Fact is we simply do not care but we will not stay mute when it comes to so much untruths being said here. The point is not to convince you or anyone from your camp and make you change your mind. That would be mission impossible. The point is to reach those other ones out there, that do not know anything regarding this issue whose thoughts B92 is trying to poison on a daily basis with lies and propaganda. Now here on this site our efforts to present the other side of the coin are limited; since the censor aparitchiks of B92 censor anything containing facts and sources that our side writes and leave only the message of those who shout. That is also another way they try to shape the message outsiders see. Nevertheless giving up is not an option. Hope I explained a few things.

johny on the one hand B92 is accused of being controlled by the nationalist Serbian government and on the other it is accused of being controlled by George Soros and foreign interests.

If, as mijari claims comments from Serbia will forever be ignored by 'Kosova,'why on earth are he/she and his/her ilk constantly commenting about Serbian affairs on a Serbian news portal. On the contrary, I suspect they are obsessed with every item of news emanating from Serbia. Kosovo will naturally gravitate towards Serbia because she belongs to Serbia, and historically always has. The local Serbs stubbornly hang on, despite your brutality. And so I say to you who are blinded by hatred, embrace diversity as we in the West have done. Abandon your primitive nationalism and exclusivism, and look to the future.

It is an equal representation of all attendees, regardles of what Vuk says.

Serbia can't stand the fact that if Kosova does not participate, all the important EU reps will not attend and this conference will fail. In other words, "EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton and EU enlargement commissioner Stefan Fuele have indicated they will only attend if the presence of all Western Balkan countries, including Kosovo, is guaranteed".

What Vuk is saying is just fog for internal Serbian consumption.

Hope I explained a few things.

kate

pre 14 godina

Johny: "Pete, lets just say that B92 has become the mouthpiece of the propaganda machinery of the spin doctors in Belgrade."
