Believe me Ian, I hope you are right because they will be doing Serbia a favour, but which country has sad that this was a condition so far?

I know that none of them have said it. On the contrary they have all said yes but compliance with Hague must happen first. This is the ONLY condition set for Serbia.
If you have read something different somewhere else, please provide that source.

Something to ponder on; What benefit will the EU bring to Serbia? (besides massive loans that will increase the country's debt dramatically)... Good day

You are correct trudsaam, Serbia already has everything its needs. Visa free travel and the free trade agreement. We don't need to be EU members. What will it offer us? A brain drain? More debt?

the fact is the Serbian people do not want EU, go check yourself in Belgrade. Read the walls and hear the voices of the people speaking and declaring themselves against the EU-machine. Good day :)

Askush: "Make up your mind which is your country UK or Serbia?
If it is UK than you are misinformed.UK is a full member of the EU."

Shows how little you know. As Trudsaam said, you are plain wrong and need to check your facts. Britain opted out of the Social Chapter, is not a party to the Schengen Agreement, has not adopted the Euro.

I never disputed that they are members but said that they have one foot in, one out and in that sense they are not 'full' members.

As for 'making my mind up' there was never any confusion, thank you. I am 100% English but believe in international law, Serbia's sovereign rights over Kosovo, and that countries or bodies should not be able to bully other countries out of their own territory through underhand and illegal tactics.

Why is it so confusing to believe that a non Serbian person would believe in those principles? There are plenty of non Serbs on here who think in the same way.

Hi Kate.
I love it when you flater yourself.
Make up your mind which is your country UK or Serbia?
If it is UK than you are misinformed.UK is a full member of the EU.
If your country is Serbia than don't flater yourself. The EU is not beging Serbia to join.
The other way around.
It is Serbia beging the EU, namely trying desperately to ratify the SAA agreement without full cooperation with the Hague tribunal.
Without SAA NO candidate status.
Serbian politicians know this and they are trying very hard to further Serbia's EU ambitions (bless their souls)
And please don't mention Switzerland.
Serbia is no Zvicera.
Or should i count Serbia's bailing out for the last year alone(IMF).
I hope you will take note of my constructive comment.
Kind regards.

How can Tadic or the Serbian people still beleive in EU; When they have done nothing in support for their cause.

All the Serbs are asking for is the law to be abided, and they refuse. Who needs this imperialistic machine anyway? The Serbs don't, neither does any other Europena nation.

This machine can only exist under the false pretence that "All nations within Europe NEED this unity", my question is why? The machine has shown nothing or has done nothing in support for Serbia and its people, so whats the point. It can only get worse once Serbia enters.

The fact remains; No nation NEEDS the EU, rather it is the EU that needs the nations. I call on the Serbian people to protest against this machine, you must unite amongst yourselves before considering unity with others.

Something to ponder on; What benefit will the EU bring to Serbia? (besides massive loans that will increase the country's debt dramatically)... Good day

It is quite simple: Kosovo is a Serbian province ruled by UN. So Serbia can join EU while the UN keeps governing Kosovo province.

And my friends, exactly that will happen. Mind my words!

(Ian, UK, 26 April 2010 12:03)

Absolutely they will, because Serbia would refuse to join without Kosovo or an agreement in place about Kosovo, and rightly so. They are perfectly within their legal and sovereign rights, and the EU is aware of this.

I'm not quite sure why you're sounding so smug about it anyway, Ian UK, because in the UK most of the people want to get out of the EU. We don't even fully comply to eg. the human rights elements of the social charter, or show any signs of adopting the Euro.

The UK isn't even fully in the EU. One foot in, one foot out. So why do you think that Serbia should be so grateful to give up territory for a priviledge that your own country (and mine) hasn't even properly embraced?

Or is it one rule for 'them' and one for us?

There is no alternative to keeping Kosovo a part of Serbia. An uncontrolable birthrate amongst kosovo albanians can not result in one people laying claim to someone elses territory. There is no doubt in my mind that Kosovo, or at least part of it, will continue to be under Serbian control.

Wonder why B 92 doesn't write about the outstanding performance by Partizan Belgrade in yesterdays win agains Cibona, Zagreb? With 0,6 seconds left Partizan scores and wins. Simply amazing!!! A must see video.
