Yes Aleks, for all those Eastern Europeans the best solution would be to return to the Russian brotherly fold to be happy and well taken care off again.

"I hope that Russia will be more and more isolated." (Mircea)

-- When NATO is looking for ways in which to deepen ties with Russia, such a scenario seems highly unlikely.

NATO is dead and has been for many years. Unfortunately the only other possible avenue for european security, the Western European Union (WEU) was officially wrapped up at the end of march and in the early 1990s was mooted as a replacement for NATO but it did not happen.

This was one of the largest mistakes ever made in europe.

The recent NATO conference has yet again papered over the cracks over fundamental issues that are driving NATO apart as well as the US and EU.

Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium want US nuclear weapons out of their countries. The US says 'no' because that is the only reason their best friends in the east (Poland and the Balts) want to be in the club.
They are stupid enough to think that these bombs actually protect them from mad, raging Russia.

In the real world, all major multinational companies that have set up in Poland for example require russian speakers as Russia is the major market for these companies. Cold, hard economic logic is the driving factor. If you don't want to trade with Russia, then try and eat those bombs instead.

Being in the EU and NATO have saved none of these countries from the economic crisis and deliberately cutting themselves off from the lucrative russian market is economic suicide, or do they think Brussels and the US will forever give them free hand outs? Only fools think money is given freely.

"A further topic on the agenda later on was to map out NATO's strategy on a future pullout from Afghanistan, with the key isue being how it would be decided when responsibility for security would be turned over the Afghan military and police. "

Nato's "strategy" for "pullout" could well include a hasty retreat in the face of inevitable defeat -- they will need Russian airspace for a quick getaway back to the West then -- it will then be Vietnam all over again for the Yankees and, this time, for their Nato lackeys too.

Who knows, Moscow may be secretly aiding the Talaban resistance as payback for American aid to the Afghans during the Soviet occupation!

Call it what you like but a defeated NATO is exactly that.

Russia is responsible for dividing Europe for 50 years by creating the Iron Curtain after the second World War.

Russia installed communist governments in Central and Eastern European countries and destroyed the economies of these countries.

Russia prevented the countries of Central and Eastern Europe from developing together with Western Europe after the second World War.

Russia did not permit the countries of Central and Eastern Europe to benefit from the Marshall Plan.

The countries of Central and Eastern Europe lost 50 years due to Russia and the communist governments which Russia installed after the war.

Russia created nothing but misery for the countries of Central and Eastern Europe during those 50 years of communism.

I hope that Russia will be more and more isolated.
