I agree with Mike on this. I think they are totally stuffed and looking for a way out with Belgrade.

But they would never admit to having made a mistake, or upset Pristina by saying that they want to support any new ideas!

Mikael C et al,

Why should you be insulted at the statements of another carbon copy underling of my country's State Department?

When was the last time ANYONE in the US government ever admitted error in foreign policy even when they know they're up the proverbial creek without a paddle?

If at first you don't succeed, plow through, ignore all countervailing evidence, and hope for the best. That's Diplomacy 101 with these guys.

As far as I'm concerned, the fact Washington "agrees to disagree" with Belgrade is a huge admonition of my country's diminished expectations of getting only what it wants in the region yet still trying to put on a good face.

"I admit that we have disagreements, but we also have common interests, and we will discuss how to overcome those differences, said Steinberg," reiterating that the U.S. stand is that the unilateral declaration of independence by Kosovo "contributed to the stability of the region". '

When I read garbage like this it makes my blood boil. No Steinberg, you created an absolute mess in the Balkans, just like the Germans and the Turks did before you. Please keep your unwelcome nose out of our affairs, and all will be well.
You won't be able to afford it soon anyway, this is what you should be most worried about.....

Oh really! What about all those daily attacks on Serbs, Romas and their property. I just heard from a relative in Istok that a Serb was hit by a car driven by albanian(s). In some other country it would be an accident but in this case it was on purpose. Incidents of intimidation, assult, destruction of property and even murder occur daily in Kosovo. Albanians clearly want to give Serbs the message that they are not welcome on their own land and in their own homes. I don't see how this is contributing to stability. Then again we all know what stability the american way means: Irak, Afganistan and Kosovo are all stable and democratic. Perhaps american officials can fool their own public into believing such rubish but the educated world sure doesn't.
So, James Steinberg, stop insulting the intelligence of the free world.
