Russia and U.S. on “brink” of arms reduction treaty

It was a time for tributes in Moscow, a pause in talks between the U.S. and Russia aimed at making progress in the strategic arms reduction treaty.

There are problems most Europeans can’t see :

1/ In security matters Russians don’t trust anyone. They consider only capabilities of the potential rivals. Thus they calculate joint potential of Israel , USA , UK , France ect.
2/ China is armed with mostly short and middle range missiles which can threaten only Russia. So Moscow believes China is also to be involved.
3/ The USA have overwhelming superiority in conventional armaments enough to solve any tasks. So Russia needs to be sure that with any developments they will keep the capability for total destruction of the USA.
4/ Until resent the USA ignored the connection between the defense systems they are intensifying now and the nukes to be limited while Russians fear that the US will be able to stop the remaining 1000 missiles with the new laser defense systems.
5/ The two countries have too different nuclear potentials to find simple solutions.

So I think the expected limitation will not that big. I guess it will be just a step towards the declared goal. If they sign it at all …
