What I think about all this. I could be wrong on that, no guarantees.

On this side of Danube surprising things may happen. The biggest opponent of FIDESZ seem to become their own "Frankenstein-creation" ( = "Jobbik"), not the paralyzed MSZP (socialist party). Jobbik is essentially a fascist party with some strong communist aftertaste.

Viktor Orbán of FIDESZ is a mini(?) Duce. Not the Greater Hungary, but Greater Orbán is his only agenda. At the moment his Galaxy-wide dominance is being threatened by someone else, he will act and re-adjust. He rules his own party (FIDESZ) with iron hand and they must follow.

Now what happens if a nazi party becomes his main opponent, not a quasi / neo liberal one?

He probably will re-evaluate his "Magyarness" and may even turn 180 degrees (not the first time in his life!). It did not escape my attention that Nikolic had a surprisingly happy meeting with Orbán only few weeks ago. His position is secure to such degree, FIDESZ can allow itself to face the elections without a program - and still win. That means, Orbán will have all flexibility he wants after the elections without being bound by a single promise.

At the same time the MSZP will be on life support, "Jobbik" will spit all the neo-nazi nonsense and - as they announced - go for the win if not now, than in the next elections.

Could happen, Slovak paranoia will be hanging in the air and they (Slovaks) could look silly after Hungarian elections. Orbán can "change" his mind to become, say, a quasi-mainstream or anything what serves him best. Again: he has no program and he is not bound.

Regarding "our" Sólyom, the president: it looks, I was (unfortunately) correct. His recent trip to Serbia is widely regarded as a very poor diplomatic performance and his days are probably numbered. He is completely confused. Orbán would support him 2 years ago, but now what he says is rather pleasing Jobbik, than FIDESZ who are now deadly enemies. That does not look good for his carrier.

It is pretty shocking to see, how large is the part of population who are going to vote for parties without any program (FIDESZ) or for a party with essentially a communist/fascist agenda (Jobbik).

This time I am not going to vote for anyone. Usually it is advised to vote for the lesser evil. It looks, there will be three parties who will cross the 5% threshold: FIDESZ, Jobbik and MSZP, probably in that order. I don't consider any of these to be a "lesser evil".
